  1. Would it be pointless to get a 4+ gb DVDr and a Double layer DVD burner? Cant the double layer burners burn double the capacity? What is the price range for them, is it comparable to the 4gb?

    Most newer drives support Dual Layer (+R). The NEC 3520 supports Dual Layer with both +R and -R standards, an the Pioneer 109 *might* also (seeing as Pioneer is one of the backers of -R format). I am not to familiar with Pioneer drives.

    The drawbacks to dual layer are:

    (1) Price and availability of media (scarce and expensive at US ~$10 a disc. If your lucky you might find them a bit cheaper.

    (2) Compatibility - both in recording and playback.

    (3) Speed - most available media can only be recorded at 2.4x - some drives might allow 4x. Coaster rate is high when compaired to single layer media (not to mention that they are *expensive* coasters).

    That said, all dual layer drives still support writing single layer media.

    compusa sells single for 8.99 DL meida and 3 packs for 24.99


    i almost bought one to try, but i was like i can get a 25 pack for that much of good media verus 1 DL media, even tho i will probly buy one just to try, but then again i dont know, not worth it to me
