  1. Ok after a shit load of apps, I have only have 3 faced to face interviews with different companies. Granted I have had 3 interview with some companies, but I never walked away with a job. Now my last application resulted in:

A company offered me an in person interview and TEST. I can't remember the last time I was required to take a test to get a job

If that all goes well, I can look forward to a drug test and lie detector test after that

They better offer me a lot for all this crap

    51+ apps

  4. Just had the interview and TEST with them. Past the test

    Test was,
    Join domain
    Login domain
    setup jet direct print server
print test page from computer to printer

    No Problem Right?
    Wrong.

Had to redo the IP on the computer to join domain
jet direct card was on a different subnet
router was filtering all traffic out except telnet port 23, as it was also filtering standard HP jet web setup software too.

took me awhile to get the card setup on the same subnet, with dual IPs on a winXP work station, but I finally did. The guy had to help me out with the telnet part as I didn't even know jet directs could be telneted to. Once I did, I just figured it out as i went.

The guy asked me if I thought it was a real world test. I said yeah, BUT thought to myself at the same time, sure you're going to place a firewall between 2 subnets and only allow telnet port 23 to pass through...yeah real world! NOT

    Yep

If it is a network printer and has it's own ip #, you can telnet to it.

  6. Yeah 1st thing I did was print it's config and check the lights for a link and activity

Heck they even blocked IPX (firgured what the heck and tried it before I when to far)

XP doesn't have DLC, so that was out of the question.

They even blocked ping and tracert (icmp) I could get to the fireware but not past it.
Not real world, but I will remember you can telnet to a jet direct card/server in the future though

They made me pull down my pants and cough.

weird that it happened in each of the three rounds of interviews.

The dentist makes me do it too.

It's not all that uncommon here. It has always irritated me because the polygraph ("lie detector") has never been more than a carnival novelty, and even the FBI and DoD, two agencies that use it extensively, admit that they use it as a tool to intimidate people into being too afraid to lie. It's not unlike pointing an unloaded gun at someone
    Quote Quote

As far as taking a polygraph test goes, I would tell them where to go. If they want me, they should allow me to build integrity with them instead of relying on a shakey test. A reputation for honesty and fidelity is infinitely more meaningful than a graph spewed out of a machine.

  13. Actually, It a small company run by a husban and wife team. They have 7 employees and want to expand. They do everything in house. They build all their own servers and workstation. They use Cisco routers, Intel and Cisco switches. They sell Zerox printers... They just bought a new building (old old bank) and it was very "corp" and professional looking.

Even thought the interview went well, I dought I got the job since he had to help me with the telnet part of the test.

Guess I'll have to wait to find out though...Least it gives me a week or so to get the smack out of my blood stream.

I used to sit prospective employees down in front of my computer, have them find word on my system, and type a little bit on the computer... They were being offered telemarketing positions that required good typing skills. They all said they had good skills.... but a few did some serious hunt and pecking... maybe a few words a minute... nope that wasn't gonna cut it.

Sometimes testing is required if your sure about an emoployees aptitude... "yea, I can use a computer" aint gonna cut it.

    Cheers

I did that for a job too as this 5 years ago.

That employer, a very unfair and a very discriminating one got me failed on that aptitude test even though I got computer qualifications and typing skills.

He got me to find MS Word and MS Excel and I have advance knowledge on these office applications. I also got great typing skills too.

The interviewer did test me on those and he cheated me as the results of the test was very unfair. He done just like that, with his fingers I failed the test.

It wasn’t marked, no points used and no comparison with other applicants.

It was just like that: failed in an instant that suited the employer.

It was a waste of time and I left the interview half way through due to his discriminating, rude and too personal questioning as so irrelevant to the job.

So, I walked out of him.

I complained to the Government agency about this and they say there was nothing they can do?

This was even though the interview and aptitude test was in breach of the rules and the law in job advertising and interviewing.

That employer was the worse I've known to visit for a job.

I never forget this one and the location of the firm was bad for me too.

I shouldn’t have bothered as a waste of time.

I reckon he was after a sexy female to do the job.

Not always though, generally and sometimes as obvious when some one calls me thinking me as a lass.

Once, there was call asking for Miss or Mrs. Me.

When that guy realized me as male, he was sorry to call as he wanted a gal.

That one employer who interviewed me as a bad one, he knew full well I am guy beforehand as he was told.

Why did he bother at the first place interviewing me?

There was nothing to say or he to tell me at the interview he wanted a female.

I only suspected that he wanted a female and on so many other factors such as location of the applicant and the age of the applicant for the job too.

He was very selective in a very discriminating manner.

He was the rudest interviewer and a cheater I’ve known.

The job was near Sydney Airport at a location not convenient for me.

I think I was over qualified for a dumb job too.

I never came back to that area again.

Anyway, this was 5 years ago and as life.

Well there's always the remote possibility that the person just didn't ******* like you for whatever reason and was trying to run you off without coming right out and telling you to go get fucked and get the **** out of his face.

Mcdonalds is not acceptable for various reasons. I have two resume's. One technical and a non-technical one. I am applying for all sorts of jobs.

I am not good at directions so I would not make a good truck driver.

Yeah, I'm already a MCSE (ms certified systems engineer) but it's under NT4. Even though the cert never expires, they want me to at least get on cert in 90 days on the current 2000 stuff.

70-210 or 70-270 are the easiest I think. Shouldn't be that hard to do 70-210 since I've been using it since Alpha release (I was a official beta tester)

You're also right, 32K is a whole heck of a lot better that unemployement checks and burning through my savings and stocks. It's about half of what I wanted but it will work for now.

They are also making me sign a non-comp agreement. It's a real broad one too. They better be worth it.

    I start tomorrow

They also said I'll most likely be sent out to a remote site for an install tomorrow too....LOL

    Probation is 30, 60, 90 days reviews
