I have seen several references to making sure that your CD and/or HD are set to DMA, I am using an ultra-DMA HD with Win98se and can't find anywhere these properties can be set.
Thanks in advance for giving me a clue!

Claudia,
First, check in your system BIOS what are the settings for Primary/Secondary IDE interface. Make sure they are set to match the transfer protocol of your devices (HD, CD/DVD-ROM). Choose the maximum supported transfer method.
In Win98SE, go to Start|Settings|Control Panel|System;
Under "Device Manager" tab, click in the [+] next to CD-ROM to show the CD/DVD units in your system. Choose one and click "Properties".
In the second tab you'll see a set of 6 check boxes. To activate DMA, check the last (from top to bottom) rightmost box. Click OK. In the pop-up message, click OK again.
Do the same with your hard disk(s) and reboot your machine.
To see if the changes were effective, proceed as before and verify if the option boxes are still checked for each device you changed.
Good luck!

Thanks for the tip. I had looked in Device Manager before and completely missed that DMA box, must have been momentary blindness! Has helped my captures a lot!
At the moment I live in the Deep South, otherwise known as Mississippi. Thank goodness for the Internet since it is almost impossible to find people who share my interests here...
Thanks again!
