Is it possible to play video, which was encoded to Nero Digital, on a computer which has no Nero products installed.
In other words: is it possible to instal Nero Digital codec alone, like any other codec needed for software video players.

    Thank you.

you can use the 3IVX codec for playback ... you also can install just the nero codec ..... but since you have to buy nero to get it -- and use it ... might as well just install the whole thing ...

For Windows XP, try installing both the Xvid and official Divx codecs. Also, different Media Players may make a difference. Windows Media PLayer isn't the best. Try VLC.

Nero Digital mp4 files will play on both Mac OS X and Linux. There is no requirement that a computer user own the Nero Digital product for playback. But some Nero Digital options such as subtitles and chapter selection will not be available.

Nero Digital offers a few encoding choices, however. I do not know about cross-platform compatability for the new AVC codec. And when I use the standard Nero Digital settings, I always choose the Simple Profile (QuickTime Compatability) option -- this is available under the Expert Mode -> Advanced options.

I have the free Xvid and Divx 5 codecs installed on my Mac OS X system. Both are free and easy to download. Maybe other mp4 codecs will work as well.

Linux is a bit trickier, it depends on what is included in the particular distro, and what you have added to it, such as Xvid and any other codecs you can find. Some Linux distros will play Nero MP4s without addition. I find Mplayer is the best for Nero MP4s on Linux.

    Cheers

Please tell me where is that codec (Nero Digital) and how/where you installed it manually ?

You said that you got no audio. I don't understand why audio should be a problem (unless it is in Nero mp pro format).

Why tools like Avicodec or GSpot do not recognize video encoded in Nero Digital ? This is not so new codec.

I've been Nero user for a long time, but I only recently have decided to start playing with that Nero Digital and I've been pleased by results.
My brother do not use Nero and could not play that video, so that's why I am interested if it is possible to play that video format without having Nero installed.

    regsvr32 NeNDVid.ax

etc .... just register all the *.ax files ... -- ... NeNDVid.ax is the main codec .. use Filmerit to get a handle on which codecs and files are in use ..

ffdshow decodes Nero Digital AVC fine, you will however need a mp4 splitter that handles mp4/AVC. Other options would be VLC, mplayer or Osmo4.

You will need recent versions of the above though.
