  2. Its not simply a question of PC power. Its a question of knowledge and software tools. I suggest you start in the guides section. There is loads of reading and learning ahead of you so be patient.

To play on a standalone player? I will assume so.
In that case your firts choice is to decide if you want VCD or SVCD. SVCD is a higher quality but appears to be supported by slightly less players and alos allow less running time per disk. Take a look at the 'WHAT IS' section top right of the page. Next you have to convert your avi to the relevan format. There are many guides under conversion on the left of the page that will help, but to speed things up a little, I would suggest Tmpgenc as a decent starting point. Once oyu have a (S)VCD compatible mpeg file, then you have to author and burn your (S)VCD, it is not just a data disk or CD-ROM but many CD burning tools support (S)VCD creation. Again, the guides section is your friend, this time the authoring section is where to start looking.

Well, sorry then, if you can't manage to follow the guides on this site them perhaps digital video is not something you should try your hand at.

Pick a guide, follow it to the letter, when it goes wrong, come back here, post details about what you have done and where it went wrong then maybe someone could help. If you can't manage that then you are on your own, no-one is going to hand hold you through this.
