  1. I've finally successfully burnt a dvd useing the mac and Toast Titanium 6. It plays fine in a standalone apex dvd player, but not in a pioneer or a sony.
I encountered this same problem when i burned a movie as a UDF with my PC useing Nero, which would only work in the Apex, and not the other 2.

I'm extremely macintosh illiterate, had trouble even opening a .sitx file(not important, don't want to stray off subject) But useing Toast 6, is there a way to make a UDF/ISO dvd?? Or can you only make the UDF? (whats the MOST compatible format for dvd players?)

What Players are the pioneer and sony? They just may not accept burned media or possible DVD-R media.

Yes. You just put the disk in, go to COPY mode and then go to FILE/SAVE AS DISK IMAGE.

you will get a .toast which is a "iso" or disk image.

DVD ROM -UDF is the "industry standard" format, so its probably just that you are not burning the dvd proplery

make sure you have it set like this

    DVD_NAME
    ---AUDIO_TS
    ---VIDEO_TS
    -------all your video files

make sure the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders are in the root of the dvd, otherwise it wont play on some dvd players

apex is notorious for playing anything you toss at it, even dvd's with peanut butter smeared on them!

most players choke if you dont have it in proper forrmat

    hope this makes since

if not, look to my website, it has beginners tutorials to help

  4. I've used burned dvd's with the Pioneer and Sony many times, comeing from the Pc world, as UDF/ISO with Nero.

With Toast, what you are saying is, the only way to get UDF/ISO, is to load the audio and video ts folders into Toast, and save it as an image file? Then useing the image file burn it as UDF?

I've been burning with the pc for a long time... have about 100 movies. All work well and are compatible with most players. (including the Apex, Sony, Pioneer) I understand that you must have a blank audio_TS folder and the Bups and vobs and whatnot in the Video_ts folder,

As a test, i took one of my ALREADY COPIED movies (from pc..nero) put it in the mac, pulled the audio and video ts folders to the desktop, opened toast 6, clicked on Data/advanced, and then Dvd rom UDF, dragged the files over. Burned it as that, and got the incompatibility with Sony and Pioneer. Worked fine with the Apex. Am i doing something wrong there?
Still gonna try the Image File idea.. haven't yet, not sure about it

  5. DVDs burned in Toast's DVD-ROM (UDF) format always have a UDF/ISO bridge. You don't have to create an image first.

    Are you using Toast 6.0.7?

  6. Where do i find the option for iso/udf bridge?
I'm not sure what version of toast i have.. i thought it was AT LEAST 6.0.5 do i need 6.0.7 for the iso/udf bridge?

  7. Toast ALWAYS writes it as an ISO/UDF bridge. There are not settings, it just automatic. It doesn't make since to write it any differently. Most PC products give options to change this stuff, which is absolutely pointless. All DVD are ISO/UDF bridge for compatibility reasons. If the DVD aren't working, you are burning them wrong, or you have a media problem.

You don't have to have 6.0.7, but 6.0.7 has a lot of fixes that are good to have.

Read Galactica's info on burn DVD in Toast.

Yes. Did your file structure look like this?
    MOVIE_NAME
    -- AUDIO_TS
    -- VIDEO_TS
    ------ VTS_0_1.VOB (etc)

Or did it look like this?
    VIDEO_TS
    -- VTS_0_1.VOB (etc)

Version one is correct. Version two isnt. From what you wrote, it sounds like you did version two.

Your problem lies in the "dragged the files over"

you have to either 1. click NEW DISK or 2 create a new folder on your desktop to put those AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders into, then drag that one folder to toast

opening toast and then dragging the folders over will not give you proper dvd architecture for the burn.

per the earlier question, i thought you wanted to make an ISO. not burn one.

At any rate, if you read this and all the other posts you should be good to go

again, look to my beginners tutorial so you can see what im talking about with the "dvd architecture" and toast

Try using a different ripper that is more current, such as yadeX or Mac The Ripper

The easiest way to "recopy a copy" is to do this

    1. put the dvd in the drive
    2. open toast
    3. Go to COPY, ensure your read from drive is recognizing the dvd [you should see its name in the toast window]
    4. go to FILE then SAVE AS DISC IMAGE

this will then "save" your dvd over in a .toast file which will automatically have the correct architecture for the dvd

when thats done, eject the dvd and put in a blank. double click on the .toast file you just made and then burn it as it opens in toast.
