    MPAA is wussy stuff.
    Look at this: http://www.hackhu.com

Compare the "facts" and "truth" to this:
    http://www.dtvlawsuits.com
    http://www.directvdefense.org

At least MPAA is mostly right.
Those sites were mostly filesharing of movies.
As well as software, games, music, etc.

The DirecTV thing ... that's bad.
This makes for a sickening read:

You can't win with corporations, just look at the tobacco industry - how many millions have died because of their products, how many more have to die until they become illegal? It will never happen Im affraid

MPAA is right, theft is theft.
However the whole movie industry is upside down.
And it is very hypocrite industry. You can record anything broadcasted on VHS for later viewing, archive it even if you want, watch with friends etc. Theyre fine with it (or actually they were forced to be fine with it heh), but as soon as you change analog media (VHS) to mpg, dvd, vcd, divx, whatever digital format - they call it piracy lol. You can "dump" say HDTV feed to your VCR and save it on VHS in analog form, but you are a pirate if you decode the same cable feed and save transport stream to your hdd, or recode it to dvd or whatever media you prefer. Its idiotic. The "content" is the same, only the quality of your 'archived copy' is different. Theres no logic in it.

the rows over movies are especially stupid. i would far rather pay £5 to watch a ~2gb Xvid downloaded through a BT powered secure server through my computer at home, than pay £6 something to watch it on a poorly adjusted screen, in a bad sounding, dirty smelly multiplex. even if i can only watch it once, i don't care. if it was all computer based with their own download software/player the system could be modified as they liked to prevent hacks, and at £5 a time they'd make way more money off me than they do at the cinema. so really, steam for movies. complete with viewable trailers and notifications in the coming soon section. yeah, you could even pre-load the movie so you can watch the moment a movie is "released" and your machine is sent a key!

I wonder if i can patent the idea.......

Idea is great But I doubt it will be put to work within next decade, at least not until all those CEOs finally retire, because for them any computers, downloading, online movies/music etc etc are simply piracy (and they usually never retire since most of them are long past retirement age lol we gotta wait till they all will eventually step down 'naturally' )

I hate multiplexes too. There are very very few movies that need to be seen on the huge theater screens. $8-9 (GBP 5) is too much though, since you can own a dvd for for similar price, but Im sure market would adjust prices.

  19. I've just been to the cinema. It is actually a fairly clean, well-kept one - Cineworld. However, the projector wasn't adjusted right, and was cutting off the bottom 20% or so of the image (you could see it when there were subtitles) and there was damage to the screen that they haven't fixed in weeks. At least they didn't show that patronising, stupid Cineworld video.

Another thing - why do they feel the need to show 35 minutes of adverts before the film starts? We arrive in at 2120 (the "start time") and the film begins at 2155. They already relieved me of £6.30 to see the film, and a further £1.30 for some instant coffee out a bloody machine.

Hmmmm.... Rant over. I just don't like being ripped off. At least the film was OK - Assault on Presinct 13. Good action, basic storyline - all good!

I've sent complaints letter to Loews about ridiculous 18min of commercials before the movie started (like I haven't paid the full admission fee or what?). They apologized but said something about tough market etc BS how low profit margin their businesses operate (LOL!) but anyway they gave me a year-long free admission as a part of apology lol

  24. I like the ads before the movie especially the dodgy anti-piracy one.

<Typical action movie trailer voice over>

    "You wouldn't steal a car...."

(show dodgy scene of a guy with coat hanger)

    "You wouldn't steal a DVD..."

(show dodgy scene of a guy with a trenchcoat)

    "Don't download movies, its stealing"

(show dodgy scene of a computer with movies downloading which looks like a three year old designed a powerpoint show)

I still say if they were smart, they'd have the commercials AFTER the previews. Otherwise, you can just show up late. :P

If theyre really smart, they add 30+min of commercials in the movies (like on tv) and charge $2 admission fee only, theaters would pack every day
Other than that someone should really start class action lawsuit against theaters for showing commercials...

Somebody already did. It was on CNN. Some lady in Illinois filed a class action lawsuit against Regal Cinemas. She was arriving at the theater on time only to find she had to wait through 20 minutes of commercials that begin at the movies scheduled start time. My opinion, you want to show commercials... show them before the movie's scheduled start time. I would ten times rather watch filmed commercials than listen to that stupid "movie tunes" soundtrack or watch that perpetually looping slide show sponsored by Coca-Cola with the movie quotes and 3 year old level trivia (Who was the voice of Shrek in the movie Shrek?)

theater DO operate in a very low profit margin .. give them a break in that respect ... recall that they make no money on most movies off the ticket price
