God America is Cheap
I did found that as true as so cheap to buy in a New York store as here in a Sydney store as so expensive.
Yep, bought lots of things in the States and brought them home.
I brought all these home, sports shoes, clothes, LD movies, VHS movies, souvenirs, books, coffee mugs, dolls and Disneyland items.
I even bought a multi-system digital VHS recorder so cheap.
My last visit at the States was March 1997 after several visits into America on vacation.
During 1997 was the first time seen DVD player on sale in a New York store.
I also even have to buy another bag over there to carry them home.
All these as so cheap despite sales tax on them.
Even the food and drinks were cheaper in America too.
What you know, beer as untaxed in New York too.

Yeah Sydney is expensive, when you get out into the rest of NSW it calms down a bit (well thats what I thought).

New York is like the most expensive place in the USA.
In Oz, everything must cost a fortune.
Seattle is an expensive place, but everyone I know that's been to NYC thinks New York is even more expensive.snappy phrase
I don't know what you're talking about. -

I can remember having a day trip down from Vancouver to visit Seattle and to post some vacation cards to relatives and friends from there as so much cheaper without the tax.

Seattle is cheaper than New York and also cheaper than Canada.
Taxes are better in the States than Canada too.

ChrisX - you would have got a full refund of the GST -- right away on the spot at the border

I wasn't able to get the tax back as I was in Canada only briefly a couple of times.
Then first time was 1991.
The 2nd time I was at Montreal, Quebec, Toronto and flew over to Vancouver at this time. This was 1994 on your beautiful summer.
This time wouldn’t be much more than a week in Canada.
I didn’t buy much during that time, mostly on food, drink and transport and this was it. Everything else was prepaid for vacation there.
I then returned to the States at California for a few days before returning home to Australia.
