  1. hi, is there a way or a software which i can use to convert my mpeg-1 to mpeg-7? If there is none, are there motion descriptors too for mpeg-1? Because i really need to extract them and so far all the methods I can research are for mpeg-7 only. Lastly, are there any softwares available which will allow me to extract motion descriptors automatically from my mpeg-7? thank you. i really really need help with this because it's for my thesis. thank you very much. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  4. i just read the article, does this mean that there is actually no file format that is exclusive for mpeg-7? and that i can extract from any mpeg video all the descriptors i can using the mpeg-7 standard?thanks.

A person could actually expire of old age trying to get some useful information out of that last document while plowing through the vast
amount of useless vague rhetoric. I gave up.

  10. hi. first of all, thank you very much. I really appreciate this.
MPEG-7 is also called multimedia content description interface. At first I thought it was actually a file format (is it?) but one thing's for sure: MPEG-7 is a standard with which we can extract the characteristics of a multimedia. One characteristic is MOTION. MPEG-7 has it's own 'motion descriptors' which one can access to see the multimedia's motion content like high, low, etc. or even camera pans, tilts and zooms, motion tracjectories etc.
My problem is this: do all multimedia files contain these information and all i have to do is extract this using mpeg-7's motion descriptors? and are the any softwares to do this, or should i just program it? i think motion descriptors function the other way around too that is, one can actually embed into a multimedia file certain descriptors.
i hope you could really help me. im lost working with multimedia files. thanks a bunch.

  12. MPEG-7 is a proposed standard for describing and cataloging multimedia content. It's like a dewey decimal system for multimedia. You can't "convert" your MPEG1 to MPEG7, you describe your MPEG1 with MPEG7.

"Unlike the preceding MPEG standards (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4) which have mainly addressed coded representation of audio-visual content, MPEG-7 focuses on representing information about the content, not the content itself."

  13. thank you very much for your help - it really enlightened me. I have a question though, does this mean that the MPEG-7 standard applies to all mpeg files? I converted a vcd file to an mpeg, will this mean that the converted form can be described by MPEG-7 already? thank you very much.

  14. MPEG7 can be applied to any type of multimedia. It has nothing to do with MPEG video and audio encoding. It's a tool for catalogers.

After reading that link my brain locked up...now I have to reboot.

This is the first time I've heard of MPEG-7.

  18. superchritch - re mpeg7, you are on the leading edge of research w/ that, and this forum is on the leading edge of the practical, which at this time does not include meta data for mpeg. Most discussion here is on mpeg1 and mpeg2 and then mpeg 4 type codecs like divx. Closest commercial implementation of all of this is mpeg4 (part 10), which is in sorensen and also apple quick time (which I think licensed from sorensen but I'd have to check). Right now, the leading edge of research is on creating meta data for video through analytics, e.g. for security and surveillance. If you want to post or PM me w/ your questions, maybe I can help.

Hey everyone, do you know how I can use juju magic to convert my Real Media files to pure spirit energy?

  21. Gurm - why don't you repost in it's own topic...hopefully everyone will realize that not to be a double post but rather the first post of your question (or perhaps you can edit the above and withdraw it after you create your own post). Thanks.

  24. ey - gurm i admit i was wrong with the question of converting mpeg-1 to 7. But with all due respect, Dave is right, mpeg7 is leading edge technology nowadays. And im using it to develop valuable software. Actually, it wouldn't hurt if you read about it too. Maybe it can even help you: convert Real Media files to pure spirit energy.ÜÜÜ
