I didn't say that. I wouldn't know, as I own neither. I was just giving you a link with (hopefully) some useful feedback. IMO, Pioneer is a quality drive, regardless the model #.

Bought the DVR-A09 2 weeks ago. Own several other brands but this was the first Pioneer drive. Out of the box with no firmware update, burning TDK 8x (Japan) at 12x and Sony 8x at 8x. Twenty - six burns so far, with no coasters using Shrink, Nero 6, Sony DVD Architect. Rock solid. Will not nor do I ever recommend updating firmware unless you are having problems or can be assured you will gain something. Stick with good media and you should not have problems. What has worked for me may not work with others. I consider this drive the A09 equal to my Plextor 716A. Pleased with the product, so far.

I consider the 108 a better burner now as I have 8 speed discs that the 109 only burns at 4 speed and the 107 and 108 will burn them at 8 speed Also the -r I have tried don't work in a Xbox so here I am with a newer and slower and incompatable drive and the two older models are better at least until a descent firmware comes out Pioneer has taken a step backward this time.

  9. Some people think the 105 was better than either the 108 and 109. I happen to support NEC after being a loyal Pioneer user. Either one is going to serve you well as long as you stick to good media. If I had a 109, I would keep it.
Still a few bugs in the system...

You really should check out the CDFREAKS forum, the PIONEER one to be precise. Lots of good 109 information there.

    This is a nice drive.
