  1. What is the easiest way to make an EXACT copy of a dvd with the menu and the all the extras, so you cant even tell it was a backup. Also without a dual layered disc. I've seen exact copies of dvd's that were not on dual layered discs. What is the easiest, or most popular way this is done.

    Thanks,
    Dave

An Exact copy can't be done on a DVDR without changing the compression. You will need to either backup with compression. Or backup with movie only. Some even put the Movie Only on one DVDR, then do the Extras on a seperate DVDR. Look at using DVDDecrypter and or DVDshrink. Both are free and guides are to the left.

  3. IF the original is a DVD5, or you have a dual layer burner and disks, use DVDdecrypter, Iso Read, then ISO Write.

IF the original is a DVD9 and you do not have dual layer burner/disks then it can't be done. You can make it look the same with DVDshrink, (keep menus extras etc) but some compression will be required so it won't actually be an exact copy.

The same way you put 4 liters of water into a 2 liter bottle (duh!).

The only way of obtaining an exact copy of a dvd with all extras, menu etc is to split to 2 discs.

Otherwise, use a dual layer disc, though this route is still expensive.

many compressed movies on one disc with all extra and menu do sometimes look identical to the original, you cant really tell the difference.

Maybe you have seen an compressed version, which has turned out to look like an exact copy.

  6. Does Dvd Shrink just compress the entire dvd data, but sacrifice quality? If so, this is a route im still wiling to take.

    Thanks a lot

I'd suggest you try the guides section, and choose DVDShrink as the tool
    If in doubt, Google it.

Exact copy. Buy the DVD. Even the Case and pretty ink on the disc will be the same. Is this what you want?

Not as simple as DVDShrink, but the quality ends up being far better is the DVDRebuilder route.

With the built in QuEnc encoder you can't tell the difference, even with a very large DVD9 being re-encoded to DVD5. I have been learning this lately myself, which is why I can tell you, it is not as quick & easy though.

Oh, there is a 1-Click method, don't get me wrong, that's what I use. But, it takes about 5-10 hours minimum for it to process, depending on your processor speed and what quality options you select (the better the quality, the longer it will take).

But man, you just can't beat the end result. If you didn't know it was a re-encode, you couldn't tell by looking at it. Leastways, I couldn't. Great program, and freeware only makes it better.

I'll second that. After using DVD-Rebuilder, I'm a complete convert.

I do use DVDShrink for speed when there's less than 20% compression needed (or 80%, as shown in Shrink).
