How much to charge...

I have done some video work for a local company, and they have just been paying my by the job like you would with any other contractor.

Yesterday the plant manager calls me and wants to draw up a contract, and contract me to do all video work for their company.

What I've done so far is I have went in and shot video of a few of their processes from door to door and everything inbetween, edited it, put some voice overs in it, and some other things. Anyway, it was a video that they could send to prospective customers to introduce them to their facility and process.

It's been a while since I've done any work for them, and if memory serves me I think I charged them around $500.00 for each of the process videos. Apparently that was much cheaper than anyone else would do it for them.

So my question is what do you think I should charge on a contractual basis? I have no clue about contracts or anything like that, I assume it's a yearly contract, and have no idea what to charge.

He said "the video work would be like you did before, plus some other misc. items."

sounds like it is equal to 2 really good wedding videos , whch would be about $5000

That's dirt cheap IMO for doing a video from start to finish. One of the troubles I'm running into is that some of the prices I have floated as examples to people to get there reactions is there astonishment at the cost especially when it comes to editing and authoring.

Hmmmm......well, when I first jumped into it for money I was trying to undercut the lady who was doing the videos. So my pricing is probably really low.

I was thinking a $5000 yearly contract but I didn't know if that were too much/too little...like I said, no clue what to charge.

Thats the problem when it comes to things like this, deciding how much to charge.

You want to make as much money as possible but at the same time you've gotta be careful that you don't overquote for the job. Perhaps ring around a few video places in the area and pretend to be a client and get a quote for what they'd do the job for.

Personally I'd go for about $1000 bucks a project, guess it really depends on what they want. I know around here they are charging about $1500 for a wedding and I have seen some absolutely terrible products for that price.

I did my cousins wedding, came out great (having the XL2 didn't hurt) you should saee that video on a 65" widsreen, absolutely perfect. Anyhow a couple of other people saw it So I just through out prices for about $2000.... no takers though. First thing I'll do is purcahse another cam before a job like that.

I like that idea Pac, but there are none of those around here. There are a few people who do wedding video and personal things like that, but nothing large stage like corporate or commercial.

I am doing an info-mercial here in the spring/summer...that's going to be exciting and may just launch me out of "working" for a living. Hopefully.

Maybe ring someone up in a different town/city that is nearby? Ask the manager if they have any previous training videos you could take a look at to "get a feel" or some other crap and see who the vendor is and give them a ring for prices.
