I'm struggling to get started capturing video and the Nero site has been little help, so here's my deal:

I have a Panasonic PV-A307 camcorder I'm using to play my VHS-C tapes.
It's connected to an ADVC-100 via the composite inputs.
The ADVC-100 is connected via the Firewire cable into my Audigy 2 ZS.

I start NeroVision and choose Capture Video to Hard Drive. In the Capture Device field it lists AVC Compliant DV Device, which I assume is the ADVC-100. The ADVC-100 power is on and it's set to Analog In. NeroVision is set to DV Type-1. But, when I push Play on the camcorder nothing appears in the NeroVision video window. I feel like I'm missing something very simple, but can't figure out what.

    Any help is greatly appreciated

WinDV will more directly connect to the camcorder (ADVC) yes, but do this first.

Do you have the ADVC in the right mode? cycle the button on top and see if that gets you video. The ADVC is a two way device and you may have had it set to receive rather than to send.

I believe I have it in the right mode. I have the Firewire cable hooked to the 4-pin on the front because the port on my Audigy is a 6-pin. At first the #5 DIP switch on the bottom of the ADVC-100 was on, so I switched it to off but that made no difference. They are all in the off position now.

Am I right in assuming that when I start playing the video that I should see it in the video window in NeroVision?

I just hooked my ADVC-100 up. NeroVision3 is showing the live feed.

I have the cablebox (as an input like your VHS-C) coming in the back, also using 6pin IEEE-1394 in the back to the computer. Only dip sw 5 is on. Right blue LED is on. Nothing is connected to the front at the moment.

Restarted NeroVision Express 3. Selected "Capture video to hard drive". Live feed is visible in NVE3.

    Added:
Just disconnected 6pin firewire and replaced with 4pin to the front and still get live video in NVE3.

NVE3 settings: capture template DV, capture device "AVC Compliant DV Device"

Then something is just wrong. I don't have a Firewire cable with 6-pins on either end so I can't try that, but it shouldn't even matter. This is driving me crazy.

maybe it's the firewire going through the Audigy that's the problem ? When I purchased my ADVC-100 I'm sure I read about some issues regarding this, because initially I had the same idea, but after reading what I read at the canopus forums, decided against it. So now I have a peferectly good Audigy laying around
    If in doubt, Google it.

    need to isolate issues

Firewire to Audigy 2 ZS is a flag. Audigy is then a middleman and from past experience with Creative Labs, I would never want them as a middleman.

Do you have another IEEE-1394 port? If not get a PCI IEEE-1394 (or motherboard) and use that.

I'm just trying to think of my set-up (I'm at work ATM) ...

I'm think I've got "dedicated" firewire card (3 ports) to ADVC using 6-pin into PC and 4 pin into front of ADVC. I've then got VCR into ADVC using composite (yellow, red & white) at both ends, and that goes into the front of the ADVC also.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Success! Changing from the 6-pin in the Audigy to a different port in the PC did the trick. Thanks to all for your help!

Another question, should I hear audio as I capture in NeroVision?

  11. Glad you got it working. Unfortunately I can't capture shit in Nerovision Express3. It shows my ATI TV Wonder card then when I test it ,it locks my PC up and I have to reset the computer.

ATI's POS multimedia center also locks XP up. I tried installing it four times in the past and I gave up.

So i'm sticking with Power VCR II version 3 deluxe. Works great and it never locked my computer up.

It's an option. You'll find it by clicking the "More" button in the bottom left corner of NVE3. Then, below that you should see an option labeled "Enable capture device audio playback". Select that and you should have audio.
