I'm having problems with the audio quality after transferring from mini dv to my HD in either avi format or straight to dvd format.
The original video/audio is from a VHS tape(wedding Video) and I first had to transfer that onto my MiniDV tape (with my mini DV Camcorder), and then transfer that from the MiniDV camcorder to my HD via firewire connection I have avil. on my camcorder to the computer firewire card.( I realize it would be easier to transfer direct from VHS player to HD via a
A/V PCI card but I dont have this and didnt want to spend the money on yet if I could get this method to work.
I have transferred original recordings onto a minDV tape to my HD already in the past using Sonic MYDVD or NeroBuringROM and has worked ok that way-did encounter audio problems at times also but I just lowered the video quality settings from very high to a lower quality and that for whatever reason cleaned up any audio problems. But for this, it's not working, no matter what video(high, medium, low) and audio(PCM or Digital option) quality I choose-I still get very CHOPPY sound quality at times while playing the video back in either AVI mode or DVD ready mode. (I will record a short 10 min. section of the miniDV tape in both avi file and dvd ready file-and both give me audio problems-choppy quality), and it actually happens really at the same points/sections of the video each time, while the other parts of the video, the sound quality is ok-not great, but ok.
I have also looked at and listened to the video file on the MiniDV tape after I transferred from the VHS tape before putting that onto my HD and it seems just fine, so there is a problem then going from my MiniDV tape to the HD.
Any way to fix this?what programs would I need to use to fix it?Any help would be great because I would like to get our wedding video onto DVD.
I also like using NeroBurning ROM (ultra edition)program because it allows me to set up "themes" and menus with buttons, etc. on the DVD, vs. some programs just do a straight transfer with no theme/menu options.
thanks for any help.

I also do this for old VHS tapes. But NOTE, you will have to deal with audio sync issues (i.e., the video and audio will be out of sync and will get more noticable towards the end of the video). I use VirtualDub to resync after capturing using this method.Originally Posted by edu

You made me nervous there. I checked some of my MPEG2s and they are all N'SYNC to the end. Lucky, I guess.Originally Posted by MpegEncoder

yeah-I tried that but for some reason the video/audio won't transfer from the VCR thru the camcorder(A/V cables) and then to the HD(firewire) all in one shot, at least MYDVD and NeroUltra Edition doesnt pick anything up when trying to capture that way-any other ideas?
