    I know this sounds crazy, but I need to make a video file that is corrupt and pretty much unplayable on purpose. This is a legit deal for law enforcement purposes. It doesn't really matter what format it is (avi, mpeg, wmv, etc) nor is quality an issue. I do need relatively small file sizes. Ideally, this file would be a real video file that could be made to play if the recipient knew enough to fix the file, thus making it appear legitimate. The file should be screwed up enough that he would have to really know what he's doing to play it though.

    If anyone knows of any obscure (free) codecs that wouldn't play or a way to corrupt the file, please let me know.

    Thanks again for all your help

  3. You can change the 4CC codes in the file header to a setting that wont play,it can be changed back to play again.

    Mybe also transfer it to Beta , hard to get a Player in little time...J/K

    @canadateck

    Can you give me a hint on how to do this please? I had considered playing with the header, but was unsure exactly how to do it. Thanks again.

  6. I think you can also Mess with the file with a HEX editor.
