    Get a real mpeg editor like Videoredo or Mpeg Video Wizard DVD or Tmpgenc MPeg editor or Tmpgenc Authoring Works / Tmpgenc DVD Author and you can open the DVD or the VOB files from the DVD directly.

    Or convert the DVD to one mpg file using VOB2MPG and import the mpg your editing application.

    Or convert the DVD to one DV-AVI file using Xvid4PSP, open the DVD, under format choose DV-AVI, convert. Done.
