  1. Hey,

I just created / produced my first helicopter music DVD. It came out pretty good. However, after burning a bunch, I ran into this whole issue of DVD -R and DVD + R formats. Why is it that virtually all DVD's I have ever purchased (600 + and counting) work on all of my DVD players (4 and counting) and there's no format issue.

What do I need to do next time to have my DVD work in all players?

    thanks,

    matthew

  2. Keep doing what you've been doing?

edit: I misunderstood you, I thought you'd meant you've already burned 600 without any issues...

Have it professionally done, purchased DVD's are stamped not burned. That's the only 100% solution.

  5. If you are really concerned about compatibility it is massivly cheaper to buy equipment that will play either - or + than to try to match your burning to outdated equipment. If you are burning for others, burn both formats and bitset the +R. At 40 cents per disc it is still cheaper than pressing.
Still a few bugs in the system...

  6. thanks chas, the main issue isn't me.... it's giving the dvd to customers, friends, and relatives. It just needs to work for them (non-techie types).

I did burn both dvd -r and +r versions (used different labels to keep them straight). It's just a hassle to have someone try one, then send them the other.

What do you mean by "burn both and bitset the +R?"

40 cents a disk is fine if it will solve this problem...

    He means this.

If your DVD burner allows "bit-setting" or "book-type setting", that's the way to go. Use +R blanks and set the book type to "DVD-ROM".

You could always ask them what typr DVD player they have if it's just for a single customer, look the player up to the left to see what's compatible. Include a note as to why it might not work.
