  1. I'm not sure what hardware I need, or would be best. I want to record TV from an analog coax cable signal onto my hard drive. Then I want to be able to watch and control the play back in a different room than the computer is in. My best TV isn't too far away from the computer, but it is in a different room (line of sight won't work). For example, I want to be able to pause, rewind, whatever, from sitting on my bHind watching my TV.

Basically I want to create a poor man's TIVO, but the hitch is that my computer is not in the same room as the TV.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

  5. Beam a captured MPeg on wifi with VLC playback software (for playback thru networked computers). Use capture card and create Mpeg 1 or 2 or DivX/Xvid and run VLC. Wifi 802.11g preferred or faster for smooth optimal transfer rate of aud/video. You direct the signal using the IP of those netoworked computers whether 1 or more.

RF remote is the key component. If you can poke cables through the wall, you can use the All-in-Wonder or other combos.

See the ATI site and ask more.

    Hi Everyone,

Just to share my experience on PC as video recorder(PVR). My rig config.
    1. Chiantech 7NIF2 mobo with video out
    2. Xp2500+
    3. Hitachi 160gig
    4. ShowShifter - it does all the schedule recording and video is encoded to DIVX.
    5. X10 RF remote with Girder 3.2.
    6. Hauppauge WinTV tv card.

I put the PC on S3 standy mode on a 24hrs x 7 days. It will wake up and record all the schedule program. Once, it fails to wake or go on standy. Still couldn't figure why. It's real pain when you miss your favorite program.

Setting the RF remote and Girder 3.2 is another task which will take time. For me, a lot of time wasted. But once it works, I can pause live TV and skip commercial with a press of button.

Showshifter has a capability to be a video server. But I have not try yet. Have fun.
