  1. I want to burn an MPG to dvd WITHOUT reencoding.

the only thing stopping me is the audio (mine is 44khz dvd standard is 48khz) everything else is the same

    this is all I want

a quick and dirty easy way to SPOOF the files (header ??) so that when I put them into tmpgenc dvd author that it THINKS the audio is 48khz and therfore does not re encode it.

I know it may not work but I want to try since if I can make it work it will save me THOUSANDS of hours of work (literally basically meaning I wont do it :-)

    Suggestions ?

Nope. You're going to have to demux anyway before you mux to vob, so just open the file in dvd2avi and get the audio in WAV format. Encode it into an Mp2 or Ac3 with ffmpeggui and you're ready for prime time.

In what format is your audio? (Codec) Read up on the file/header format for that codec, use a HEX editor to edit the audio header to whatever you want.
Will it work? I think the answer to that is very dependent on player. One thing I'm pretty sure of is that you have to patch the audio back before final stage in authoring.

ffmpeg can convert audio directly from an mpg file by the way. No need to demux/decode first. You could also batch process, setting it say to convert the audio from all the mpg files in a given dir.

  5. You can play aroud with the header fo the file but it is no guatantee. It is better to convert the file to get best result. Also check for some option in your authoring s/w like "smart rendering" or "smart encoding". These options will tell the encoder not to encode those are already compatible with the destination format.

  7. i will try the hex thing. the problem is the mpg's I have are a quantity measured in HUNDREDS and it would literally take YEARS to convert them all meaning if I hav to convert I will simply not do it

the hope is if I can get an UNMODIFIED (ie no conversion) mpg onto a dvd in dvd-video format and get it to work in the majority of players I can convince program developers to give me a stinking do not re encode no matter what option.

nero did this with VCD and I loved it. it would allow me to drop a non standard mpg onto it and it would say hey this is not a proper mpg file do you want to reencode or use it anyway unmodified ?

I would say use it anyway and you know something ? I have yet to ind a dvd player that cares. they all play it fine

My camcorder is a hitachi mpeg10w and records mpg1 directly to a pcmdia hard drive

the video is relatively standard but the audiop is 32khz mono instead of 44khz (22khz mono each channel) stereo.

I really believe a dvd player simply will not care if its 44 or 48 khz. I think if I can JUST get one burned it would not be a problem.

tmpgenc dvd author has a check box to prevent re encoding but it will not let me uncheck it. it says its not standard spec audio and must be reencoded and puts the check back. grrrr

how about letting ME decide thast and just warn me it might not work.

SVCD2DVD has a "skip audio resampling" option.... Try v2.
    SVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.

You could try DVDAuthor - don't really know how ticklish it is when it comes to compliance (I try not to stretch these matters - knowing how much can go wrong even if you do it by the book), but I think it'll swallow most anything...
