I'll preface this by saying I have no idea what I'm doing, and I need some help.
I've got a dvd that I ripped to my hd with DVD Decrypter, and I'm trying to convert it into a handful of xvids. I've been using DVDx. I'm not sure what details are important for getting help, but I've been using 2 passes with bitrates ranging from 700 to 3500 on different trials (size is no limit). Framerate is fine as is (24 NTSC) so no changes there. Basically I am using this guide verbatim.
My final product runs and looks okay, but at certain parts both video and audio stutter and skip pretty badly. It always happens in the same parts during playback, and it happens on both computers I've tested the avi's on. Sync stays okay or corrects itself once the stuttering ends, but I have no idea how to prevent this. Can somebody please help?[/url]

All I can say is forget DVDx. It is an old and totally out of date program.
The people who use it does it probably because they don't know that there are better programs.
I know because I used to be one of them. When I first started to ripp my own DVDs about a year ago DVDx was the first ripping tool I ran across.
It did a decent job in the beginning until I started to realize I wanted to change some things I wasn't satisfied with.
For example My ripps lost some of the original colors and I also couldn't get rid of the interlaced lines. The deinterlace tool in DVDx is not good.
After trying pretty much every ripp program and guide there is I am now using Gordian Knot and more exactly this guide

I strongly advice you to try it out Drunken Sailor.
It is not complicated at all.
If you just read that pdf document carefully I can assure you that you will end up with very good results and GK will also give you the option to tweak everything you can imagine if you want to like adding more colors etc...
Since GK ties together several very good programs like Avisynth it's in my opinion the best option for people like myself who isn't a pro but understand a bit more then the very basics.
