Would not touch Ridata if it were given free. You must be totally insane to consider throwing away $25 on 100 coaster fodders, when there is 100 TY's being sold for $34 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Come on now ...........get serious.

Nothing wrong with the Ridata 4x DVD+Rs. They are usually RICOHJPNR01 which is excellent media and can be oversped to 8x on many a burner.

So sad... I'll refrain from saying something that will get myself in trouble.

Just as Gen-An said, these are RICOHJPNR01 discs 95% of the time, which are some of the best discs you can buy (the few times they are not, they are Ritek R03s, which have been good discs for me as well, and are actually 8x media, the same discs as the 8x Ridatas). They burn even better than my Taiyo Yuden discs usuallly, and burn at 8x with perfect burns on my NEC and Benq drives.

The last batch of ridata I had was complete trash. I've used over 250 or so ritek/ridata dvd-rs so I was pretty disappointed when about 15 or so out of 50 had uncorrectable errors right after burning. Take this for what it's worth. I do really like those maxell with purple bottoms though. I heard they're not too good for ps2 games though.

  6. What type of Ridata though, nick? I know people have been having problems with Ritek G04 for example, but these are an entirely different media, not even Ritek media.

You say they were Ridata DVD-Rs? I wouldn't want those either, as Ritek DVD-R tends to be mediocre at best. The Ricoh-MID DVD+R discs Ritek supplies are very good however. Ricoh is one of the big Japanese optical disc developers (ranked up there with Maxell, MCC, TY, TDK) but they use Ritek to do their actual disc production.

I'm talking about the printable ridata ritek G04's. These can't be printed all the way to the hub/ they have the clear hub. I got these for 25 bucks canadian for 50 pack. I checked with different programs and they report as being ritek G04s. I don't see any gunk or bad dye or anything on these discs.

  9. Yeah, people have had issues specifically with some of the G04s, there's been alot of discussion of it on here in the past. As I said before, though, these discs for sale are GREAT discs.

The Ridata 25pc I got from amazon.com were Ritek R03.

    Aha !
    Gen-An: "they are usually RICOHJPNR01"
RonBoy: "the Ridata from Amazon were Ritek G03"
So dkelly's Ridata from Amazon were......... Riteks.

Steve, the point I was trying to get over was, if the accepted and undoubted golden boy of DVD media among all the forum contirbutors here is TY, and the price difference between top TY and other QUESTIONABLE media is so miniscual, as appears at the moment, why bother with the questionable stuff for the sake of a couple of bucks ?

Sorry but I stand by what I said. If Brand X is 95% 'good' stuff, and 5% 'crap', to those on the receiving end of the 5%, Brand X is crap. Logical ? As far as I'm concerned, BRANDS MANUFACTURE SHOULD BE CONSISTENT IF THEY WANT TO BE CREDIBLE

Another example. I've bought the gold top Maxells with the id: MXL... Made in Jpn, great discs no introduction necessary. Saw some 5's/box at a good price recently, thought "great, I'll try a couple of boxes". Turns out they're id; RitekG04. Just great ! Lo and behold, my worst fears proved true a couple of coasters, and the rest I recorded at 3.5gigs.

RonBoy: From Amazon, the 100s were RICOHJPN, and the 25's were Ritek !!!! From the same place !!!!!!!! If that isn't jerking us off, I don't know what is.

    CONSISTANCY=CREDIBILTY=HAPPY CUSTOMERS

    So Steve
Or anyone, any opinions on the Ritek DVD-R 4.7GB, 8X, White Inkjet Printable ( Hub Printable)
Because the Prodisc DVD+R 4.7GB, 8X, White Inkjet Printable ( Hub Printable) ended up being total crap!!!!!

  13. To get back to the original question, these are either Ricoh or R03s. If they are Ricoh they are better than R03 but they are probably R03. Some burners have trouble with R03s when burned at 8X, which is where they were rated, so they slowed to 4X. If you have an NEC 3500, like mine, I would buy them. I just got another 100 at $30 and they burn with PI scans in the 20-30 range at 8X which is very good. Any other burner, especially one from the 8X generation might not fare so well. I consider these a bargain for me because so many others have trouble and I don't. As to the TY media at $38 delivered; I agree. It is better by a long shot and I just bought some as well.

  14. I said myself in my first post that 95% of the time they are RICOHJPNR01s, the few times they're not they are RITEK R03. I should have pointed out this is specific to these 100 packs, I know that the 25 packs are often if not usually RITEK R03, but that's not what this deal is for, it's for the 100 packs. I've gotten a 25 pack and it was RITEK R03, I've had great burns, but I understand it is not going to be great for everyone.

As for TY vs. anything else at a slightly lower price, I'd take these RICOHJPNR01 discs just as quickly as I'd take the TY discs, read up and you'll find that RICOHJPNR01 are GREAT discs, it's not just my own opinion. TY discs are still about $40 for a good deal on them, these are $25, almost half the price. It's a no brainer if you ask me, $25 for GREAT discs. I don't need any discs right now, I've already got two 100 pack spindles of these and a bunch of Fuji TY as well, but I'd gladly get these for the price if I needed them, these are some of the best discs around for only $25.

  15. steve2713, I never implied you were off topic. I have just found every time I order Ritek +R I get R03. I would love to see a Ricoh disc, just once. So I was adding my perspective on R03s on the chance that this guy gets R03s.

  16. It is RARE that anyone gets RITEK R03 in the 100 packs, the 25 packs are an entirely different story. This is based on all of the responses from people buying them in the reviews on newegg and all of the deal sites when anyone posts deals for these discs, almost everyone gets RICOHJPNR01 in the 100 pack spindles. BTW, my response was directly mainly at cyflyer, not you chas, I should have made that more clear, sorry.

  17. No problem. Boy I must be the anomoly. I have 4 stacks of 100 Ritek +R and they all are R03. Maybe I should dig down and check the middle of the stack, maybe the code will change.

  18. Where'd you buy them at? Just read through the reviews at newegg, and all the threads on fatwallet.com (which includes people that buy them at amazon.com), they are almost always RICOHJPNR01. You must have poor luck :P

Like wouldn't it be just great if they just printed the media code on the damn packaging so that people would know what they are buying ! To most people its like tiptoeing across a minefield. Most people don't know that Brand X 100 packs are this quality or 25 packs of the same brand are another quality etc, and if they stumble across the 'poorer' quality it'll blow up in their faces. That really sucks ! We know it, now, because we're discussing among our selves, but what about Joe-average ? Manufacturers that do this with their products really suck, and so do companies that knowingly sell two different qualities under the same brand without specifically labelling them as such (Amazon).

Chas, 400 Riteks to get rid of ? Talk about being stuck in minefield. You have my sympathy.

  20. Supermediastore.com has the ritek R03 discs in 100 packs.
http://www.supermediastore.com/ritek-ridata-8x-dvd-plus-r-retail-box.html. I just bought a box and they are indeed R03 as advertised.

My recollection is that they came from Amazon and Newegg. I just missed the good stuff. Fortunately these burn fine at 8X. Go NEC! I don't have all 400 left as I use them first when I burn non-critical backups. The only problem I now have is that I really don't want to mess with my NEC firmware and so none of these get bitsetting. Hopefully I will always be able to get players that work with +R. I have a Philips in reserve just in case.

Thanks for the tip. I'm a little leary of supermediastore since so many on this forum have had problems with them. But I will at least surf over there. Thanks.

you're welcome dafoe. As for being leary of supermediastore, I don't know what to believe. Lordsmurf has it as the top trusted retailer in his listings on nomorecoasters.com. Go figure !

  27. Supermediastore and Meritline are inconsistent in customer service. Sometimes they are very good and at other times they make no sense. I just had Meritline pay to ship half my broken DVD cases back to them and they also sent replacements at no charge. Last week Supermedia overcharged me $4 when a price dropped a few hours after I ordered. I didn't really expect them to honor the new price (Amazon, Newegg, and Rima do) but they said no problem....and then they offered me a 40 cent credit on my next order. I can forget the loss of $4 but the stupidity of offering me 40 cents will be something I will remember for a while.
