  1. I posted this on another forum, but that forum was not an appropriate place, so I should have posted it here

I'm trying to run a camcorder into my desktop. A few months ago I had no problems with this. Now, however, the camera just won't be recognized. This is on XP pro. I have a laptop with a 1394 port and everything is great, so we know the camcorder and cable are working fine. Under hardware of my desktop I see no problems with the 1394 bridge or anything else, but when I plug in the camera there is simply "no love" forthcoming. Nothing pops up, and when I load up Ulead and do "capture", it says no device was found.

I'm running on the latest mobo drivers from Abit.

I actually did manage to see the littel DV-something-or-other icon under windows explorer this morning, after plugging in the camera, but now I can't see it again and Ulead (plus two other progs I tried) still can't "find video device"

    Thanks for any help

Did you install SP2 before the "love" became cold and distant?

No, I see according to windows update that I put on SP2 on Oct17, and I have a video I made on the 31st. Granted, the laptop I'm trying this on only has SP1...

Well SP2 has caused many a divorce bewteen cam and computer..... Try this link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5c076e4c-aec8-434d-9849-e668a...en&Hash=XKC4S9

See this thread if that doesn't help: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=252426

  5. I feel that may be the problem, but alas following those steps has not solved it. I will probably just have to capture on the slower laptop and then transfer the data over to my desktop. It's that or reinstall windows I suppose, which is a pain in the arse. Thanks for your help though!

Did you follow the links in that thread, there's specific way you need to install those files.

Well that may not be the problem... was just a suggestion. Good Luck! BTW there's a lot of threads in the DV forum, perhaps you can dig up something else.

  7. If Ulead has a utility to install 1394 driver, you can use it. Otherwise reinstall Ulead and let it reinstall the 1394 driver that it likes. I have the same issue with Pinnacle Studio and every once in a while I have to reinstall the driver for it. Sometimes when you install other apps in your computer they change the driver for 1394.

  8. Well by God it works! Thanks both of you In fact I can't say rightly which of these two approaches fixed it (maybe both were needed), but in any case now I can get my video off!

Same problem here, with my first generation Canon Elura no longer being detected after installing SP2. Detected again and working fine when I uninstalled SP2 and went back to SP1.

Now, shhh, nobody tell bazooka or he might go apeshit like a mourner at Yasser Arafat's funeral.
