I have 12 full length DVD's (not commercial movies)that I have to convert to Xvid (or perhaps Divx).
I tried Gordian Knot .It worked fine but it took over 4-1/2 hours (and this is not the longest DVD I have to convert).
I then tried using my Nero Recode 2 (this is much faster but the resulting audio is not easily convertable to MP3...AAC audio is no good for me).
After using Nero, I extracted the video portion of the resulting Nero file using MP4UI.
I then extracted the AC3 audio from the original DVD using DVD Audio Ripper as an MP3. The audio was the incorrect length so I used Goldwave to stretch it.
I then joined the MP3 with the extracted Video and it was out of sync.
This second process took almost as long as the first (with out of sync audio).
Anyone have suggestions ?

Hello,
CONVERSION takes time. No way around it. Fill in your computer specs in your profile and people here can give you rough estimates of conversion time.
A new processor and RAM will help speed it up. But the quicker option is to buy a dvd burner and do a simple copy since they are already unencrypted - since they are home made apparently
Single layer discs are very cheap these days so it wouldn't be much more than burning to cdr plus you'd have the bonus of retaining any menus or extras included on the dvd.

Convert to MPEG and then buy yourself a hardware encoder that will convert for you. I have the Plextor X PVR PX TV402U. Software will never do as good as hardware. It takes me 15 minutes to convert a 30 minute show to DIVx. Drag and drop to a SD memory card and into my IPAQ portable. Watch anywhere I want.
