  1. Hello,

I just downloaded an avi file that is 640MB. I'm playing it through VirtualDub and it's not playing correctly. In the Frame Rate Conversion box it says that it's playing at 24 fps. The movie, when played, is jumpy on the screen as well as in the audio and it takes about 3 realtime seconds to go through 1 of the movie's seconds. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Also, when using VirtualDub, should I play the input file or the output file? What's the difference?

    Thanks a lot.

  2. I think your jumpy .avi file playing through VirtualDub is normal. I bet that you will find it is jumpy even if you play it through Windows Media Player also. I am willing to bet the reason is that your system is too slow. Here is why I think that: I tried playing a large .avi file like yours on an AMD Athlon 600 computer with an ATA-100 hard drive and I had the same problem of jumpiness and stuttering in both VirtualDub and in Windows Media Player. Then I upgrading to a AMD Athlon XP1600 computer with an ATA-100 hard drive and the problem decreased a little bit, but it still had some jumpiness and stuttering problems. So, the moral of the story is.....it all depends on how fast your computer and hard drive are. One question for you though - why in the world do you need to play your .avi files anyway? They are not meant to be played, they are meant to be converted into another format such as .mpg that is much easier for computers and DVD players to be able to play. VirtualDub is not meant to be used as an .avi file player...it is meant to be used for editing and filtering.
