  1. Hey, for some reason I am unable to burn any dvd's.
The problem started when my nec 2500 started playing up. This was replaced to a pioneer (not sure model) and everything worked fine (albeit slow). Finally we got a replacement with a sony drive from a computer shop. I'm pretty sure the sony drive was also a liteon, just branded sony.
What happened, was the disc would burn a bit, then everything would hang.
So, finally they sent out a brand new drive. The liteon SOHW 832S.
I updated firmware and everything, but the same thing happens.
I have tried burning 1:1 discs, via 4X, 2X. Also from image file 4X and 2X; and as you can imagine neither works.
I also just decided to (whilst typing this) check how burning an image through alcohol 120 would work and 0.0%-0.05% burnt at 0.2X and then went down to 0X.
Please help I'm going crazy here unable to determine what the hell the problem could be and why its reoccuring.

P.S. My comp just froze badly and eventually unfroze. Here is the logfile from alcohol.

If your computer is freezing up you may have more serious problems ... like adware, or a virus, not defragged, or lack of cache space. I don't see any description of your system under your profile so we can't see what's driving your system ... like cpu, memory, hard drive/drives, mobo, etc ... but I do see 4 optical drives. That could mean possible problems with the "master" and "slave " jumpering relationship. If that's correct I'd start as simple as possible .... Disconnect all optical drives except the new LiteOn and give that a try. Try defragging, or adding more memory. With the number of replacements I suspect the problem is not your optical drives .. but something more basic.

Simular problem with 2 new nec 3520a burners installed in Compaq Celeron 2.5mhz

If set to use dma if available, sys sets to mode2 = no media reconized
If set to use PIO only, all media reconized but dvd burrn is only 1.7x

The Comaq uses a intel 845 chipset, support had me flash the bio and some other stuff and finally shipped it back, waiting for return but not hopeful. Same burner in old 600mhz sys burns 8x 4g=7:12 min
