Coke II / New Coke was Coca Cola's attempt to compete with Pepsi. In the blindfolded taste tests they did, almost everyone picked Pepsi over Coke, but in the taste tests where people could see what they were choosing, almost everyone picked Coke over Pepsi (because of brand recognition). So, Coke attempted to create something that tasted more like Pepsi. That's where Coke II came in. Unfortunately for Coca Cola, most people hated the new Coke, so they switched back to "Classic Coke".

Which brings me back too:

the biggest marketing disasters of all time..... or was it.

Coke was slowly losing market share to Pepsi prior to the New Coke debacle. The "New Generation" and Pepsi Challenge was putting a signifigant dent in their sales, hence the creation of New Coke which as we all know fell flat on it's face..... but after the reintroduction of "Classic Coke" they put the kaibash on the gains Pepsi had made, if I rmember correctly they actually increased there market share from what it was before Pepsi had started the Pepsi Challenge marketing campaign. Either they got shit lucky or it was one of the most brilliant marketing campaigns of all time. If it was in fact planned I think it's safe to say the man who dreamed it up had balls of steel.

We still have the Pepsi challenge over here every so often in the summer time.

The funniest thing to do if you can tell the difference between the two (not that hard) is to drink the pepsi and then spit it out and start ranting about what is that shit.

PEPSI ONE is the best DIET pop out there. Got plenty of kick but is bolder tasting than diet pepsi

AND COKE SUCKS! Except for the lower brands like SPRITE and VANILLA COKE But not regular COKE - too strong.

I like the Orange Mountain Dew over Regular moutain Dew.

Also by my house there is a sandwich shop which mixes pop with flavored syrup. For cherry and/or vanilla cola or vanilla orange soda they call it orange creamsicle. These super sweet pops are good with pepper cheese steaks with whishstichire sauce (can't spell) and extra salty cheese fries.

When I am in Michigan I like to get Verner's on tap really good with greasy salty food you find in Michigan and everrywhere has it on tap. I Seattle you can only find verner's in the can and it cost like nearly twice as much as coke.

But really I drink more beer than pop these days. I just drink the free pop at work.

There are many brewpubs around and they have good stuff.

Next time I am in Oregon I have to go the Deschuttes they make Black Butte porter and Mirror Pond ale two of my favorites on tap or in the bottle.

Also I really like Alaskan's Alt style Ale.
