I do agree that the odds of Fuji discs being fake TY's are pretty steep...but nothing is impossible.
I'm also concerned about the recent big "sale" at Best Buy on all Fuji media. The prices were extremely low (even off the shelf - not the online price that I think Lordsmurf was talking about recently)....low enough for me to be skeptical as to what Best Buy was up to...
Did BB know about the bad batches and attempt to just get rid of the remaining stock and order fresh stuff? If BB had bad batches....how many other places got the same stuff?
Was Fuji Media another victim of fake TY media?
There are quite a few scenarios that could be involved here though...please keep that in mind.

Wrong again.
My BURNER is a 4X. The two 50 pack spindles of Taiyo Yuden I have here in front of me are 8X.You just said yourself that you've never gotten T02 discs, which are the 8x +R discs, that you've only gotten the T01 discs, the 4x +R discs. I never said you didn't have any 8x TY discs, you've already made it clear before that you have 8x -R discs, I never disputed that. You seem to have difficulty reading

Why does all this "fake" talk keep coming up? People who have bought Fuji TY media like me know they are NOT fake because we've also bought other TY media and can compare the discs. YUDEN000T02 discs will always have outer hub serial numbers that start with TG0011xx. TYG02 will always be GG00xxxx. Only TY discs use such serial numbering schemes. Why does the possibility that the discs have been mishandled by Fuji or are discs that TY rejected seem so remote to some?
-
You say the batch is bad when you only seem to have burned one disk. Have you burned any others? Have you burned a different brand using the same exact method after you tried the TYs. In other words, have you eliminated all other possibilities?
-
I just mentioned that it may be a bad batch, didn't say that it was.....I haven't burned anymore as of yet....I think that it may be just the one, say a flaw in the dye.....others look fine. Will repost after I burn another one. Maybe a week or so, I'm going on vacation....

Nero cdspeed (I have no idea what this scan means can someone explain it to me. Whats a good scan and an example of a bad scan?)

yea not sure why it says that, it said that on 1st dvd as well, but they are +r media
What We Do In Life, Echoes In Eternity.... -
You may have your drive set to bitset +R discs as +RW discs (you don't want to do that, BTW...).
Your last two scans look fine. I will just say again that Fuji uses real TY discs, to think otherwise is ridiculous. -
hmmm....how did I set my bit setting to +rw? Dvdinfopro says that my writer isn't capable of bit setting. I've done 100s of dvds all the same way and the only ones that have said +rw have been these fuji(which are just +r)?
What We Do In Life, Echoes In Eternity.... -
I probably wouldn't worry about it much then, if they play fine then it's all good. I don't know if your drive can bitset or not. Sometimes these programs will give inaccurate details, some drives read discs strangely, etc.
Have you put the discs in another drive to see if other drives see them as +RW or not? Either way, as I said if they play find in your standalone player(s), I wouldn't worry about it. You just wouldn't want to intentionally bitset a disc as a RW, I don't know of any positive effect if anyone intentionally did that, it would only lessen the chances of compatibility. -
Oh my god what have I done.....I just checked my last 7 dvds and all are bookmarked dvd+rw (checked on 2 different drives) Previous 200+ are all marked dvd-rom. I don't know how or why its changed? I haven't updated my writer at all. It's an Hp300i. Can anyone help me figure out how to get it back to bookmark dvd-rom? When in dvdinfopro (with blank dvd in writer) if I go to the set book type tab it says "It seems your drive does not support bit setting."
What We Do In Life, Echoes In Eternity.... -
Your drive DOES have bitsetting, you appeared to have changed it. Try changing it with Nero CD-DVD Speed or DVD Decrypter, DVDInfoPro is sometimes not the most reliable program in my experience.
-
do i need a dvd in the drive or can this been done with an empty drive? also, not sure what make the drive is? It says its either nec or philips?
How do I do it with nero cdspeed, can find an option anywhere? What We Do In Life, Echoes In Eternity.... -
Empty drive is fine. I believe your drive is essentially a NEC 1100, I've got a 1300 which is basically the same drive with -R capabilities.
Do you have a new version? It is an option called 'bitsetting' (duh) from one of the drop down menus. -
hmmm......using dvddecrypter I went through all the different writers benQ/nec/nu/LG/liteon/plextor/richo, and richo is the only when choosing dvd+r the current setting didn't say unknown. Does that mean my drive is a RICHO?
What We Do In Life, Echoes In Eternity.... -
Here is a scan of what I mean.....
Should this fix it from dvd+rw back to dvd-rom book type? What We Do In Life, Echoes In Eternity.... -
Maybe it sees it as a Ricoh, although I don't think it is a Ricoh drive. Yes, try changing it to DVD-ROM bitset. DVD-ROM will give you best compatibility, although nearly all of my +R discs have been burned as +R discs with no compatibility issues.

ok thaks for all your help steve...
What We Do In Life, Echoes In Eternity.... -
HP dvd300n is a indeed a NEC (the dvd300c is a Philips drive). I used some dvd300n firmwares on my old NEC ND-1100A. From what I remember it was only possible to change book type on DVD+RW discs while DVD+R discs were burned with DVD-ROM book type by default (not possible to change). So that you get DVD+RW book type on DVD+R discs is really weird...
-
That's what I'm saying.....totally throws me off....I think I've got it back to dvd-rom now. If not I'll be back for more answers/advice...
