I recently bought a package of FUJI dvd+r 25 made in Japan, with the media code YUDEN000T02. Seemed to burn fine. Used dvdinfo to check for errors and WHAM!! errors up the wazoo? Thought TY was supposed to be the best?

over at cdfreaks.com there has been threads that the FUJI discs purchased from BEST BUY were not good. i read something about looking at the serial numbers on the spindles. i would suggest using Nero cd/dvd speed to scan your discs.

My guess would be that they are not real Tys. Just because media has the TY code does not mean that it is TY.

If you want real TYs I would buy from a reputable online retailer. I get mine from rima.com

P.S. I bought a single Fuji disc a few years ago to record the Pats/KC game in 2002. Whatever year it was that they went 9-7. Anyway, the disc was junk.

I know a lot of people here like Fuji, but once I get bad media from a company I don't go back. I was not impressed with the $10 coaster.

    Good luck

That didn't work. Did you save them as .png and then follow the instruction on the postreply page?

Fujifilm branded TY media IS TY media; you can check by the discs' serial numbers and physical appearance. The problem seems to be in how Fujifilm handles the discs; either that or they're buying discs that didn't pass TY's quality standards.

They ARE real TY discs, to say they are not is silly. Yeah, the Sonic branded TY discs that you buy for $25 are fake, but please don't suggest that Fuji uses fake TY, that is ridiculous.

I've bought several hundred of the Fuji TY discs, +R and -R. I assure you, they are genuine TY discs. Fake media will not burn like these do, that's for damn sure :P.

Here's a scan of one of my Fuji TY T02 discs, same discs as Denvers Dawgs. Only difference is I bought them in November, and I bought mine in 50 packs. I have heard of occasional bad spindles of these discs, maybe you just got a bad batch. Maybe you should see if you can exchange them for another spindle, if they are burning bad enough (I can't see your scans).

Mine look like Steve's and I just bought them at BB. It is pointless to argue until he figures out how to post his scans.

  12. The ones I bought at BB have worked flawlessly every time, but everything that goes in the NEC 3500 works flawlessly. I even tried an Optocrap disc out of a spindle I've had sitting downstairs for months because they are too unreliable to use in anything, no errors.

My last batch of Rima +R Taiyo Yudens read like this in DVDDecrypter:
    Physical Format Information (Last Recorded):
    Disc ID: YUDEN000-T01-00
    Book Type: DVD-ROM

And my last batch of Rima -R Taiyo Yudens read like this:
    Pre-recorded Information:
    Manufacturer ID: TYG02
    Physical Format Information (Last Recorded):
    Book Type: DVD-R

None of my TY's have ever had the code of the OP's discs....that's all.

  20. hech54, I must be missing something here. What does the fact that you've never bought 8x +R TY discs have to do with anything? You've never purchased 8x +R Ty discs, only 4x +R TY discs, OK. What is your point?

check the recording side of the discs. There have been a number of instances where the first few top discs on a spindle had scratched/specs/bubble like white marks. These often end up coasters. (I have 5-6 out of a 50 pack from best buy, though they were -R.

Can you see the images now. I don't think yahoo would allow the image to be seen. I moved them to imageshack now. Are all 3 of my scans visable now? If so, any info for me from what you see?

Media errors on good discs are more often the fault of dirty drives, dying lasers, or old firmware.

I have the lastest firmware from HP. Is there anyway to clean a dirty drive (realistically please no sarcastic repies to that one....haha). I think I'm just gonna stay away from BB, and use only verbatim dvd. They are the only ones to have never failed. 100% read rates/no errors. Just thought that for $10 and TY that it would worl out ok....You Live You Learn....

Oh and can you now see my scans?

If the scans you are posting are from the "one" blotchy disc, It is just a bad disc in your bundle.

    Wrong again.
My BURNER is a 4X. The two 50 pack spindles of Taiyo Yuden I have here in front of me are 8X.

I think it's a little ridiculous to dismiss even the possibility that these might not be real TYs.

Since I don't buy Fuji discs, I was simply speculating. Please keep in mind that I prefaced my coomments with "my guess is" I never tried to pass off my opinion as fact.

But given the industry, I don't think it's that unreasonable to think that Fuji
could possibly sell discs with a fake media code. Think about all the companies that once sold rock solid media that are now producing a lot of junk. TDK used to be right up there with TY. Now they sell CMC discs.

I guess I'm just a little more skeptical when it comes to DVD media

ummmm....geez doesn't anyone take suggestions? i stated earlier at cdfreaks.com there were reports of FUJI TY media that was apparently a bad batch......some people took their spindles of FUJI back to Best Buy and got ones with a different number on the outside of the spindle, the number is within the PROOF OF PURCHASE square.....the one supposedly that was bad is 74101 72625......i don't have the link for that thread but i do know others have had problems using it with their PLEXTOR 712, 716 & BENQ 1620 drives.
The complaint was the scans were terrible using either PLEXTOOLS or CD/DVD SPEED.......i have a few of those spindles but i am not obsessed with doing scans....they work fine for me.....
