Beware of the new version of Nero, no matter what I did the burner buffer would not work. I tried reinstalling twice, updated the burner firmware, downloaded the Nero Ultra trial version, I even reinstalled the OS, still the burner buffer never worked. I went back to the old version, it works fine now. Windows XP SP1 and the NEC 3500.

That's a nice thought, but some new burners, we're pretty much screwed if we want to use Nero. If you know a way to make the Pioneer 109 use Nero 5.5.10.56, let me know. I have not had your EXACT problem, but there are things that certainly irritate me in 6.6.

I'm still using version 6, just not 6.6. It's 6.125 or whatever the old version on their websight is.
-
I am still using Nero 6.3.1.25 and have no plans on upgrading. This is after a pretty bad experience with 6.6.0.1.

Does 6.1 or 6.3 limit the number of characters you can add on DVD-Video template? The format supports up to about 20 or so characters (maybe even a few more), but the 6.6.0.6 will only allow about 10-12 or so characters. Not a limitation I enjoy nor find necessary.
I also think Nero 6 is bloatware, takes up too much resources, can cause underruns.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

I never looked into it further but i suspect there is a structural difference between the two versions. You might try editing the file yourself. -
I'm willing to screw it all up for the sake of testing! Thanks!

I couldn't really find any pattern to it, some drives worked and some didn't. I tried replacing selected libs from the 6.6 NeroAPI just before the whole thing crashed.
Must be something to do with dual layer support. I wonder if you could compare the NeroAPI SDK from the two different versions and get some clue? -
That's over my head. I can try to slap the CDROM file from 6 over the one in 5.5 and cross my fingers. Worst I'll do is trash the install and have to start over (again).

For some reason Nero 6.6 screwed it up.
For example, the title "DVDVIDEO_50_TO_55_RE" is a valid disc title. However, Nero 6.6 chops it off to about "DVDVIDEO_50_TO" and that's all it will allow.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

A couple of weeks ago my friend had a problem with a Pioneer108 and Nero 6.xxx always wanted to burn at max speed and screwed up many discs
I went over and finally installed this registry trick to show realtime burning speed and buffer state in Nero.

I've been using the same version of Nero (5.5.10.35) for a year and a half or so without any problems. My drive's a Sony though so YMMV.

I just got a 109 (firmware 1.09) wih Nero 6.6.0.6, just recorded a DL disc in 6x without a problem. Teased the computer a bit by browsing while it was recording and not a hiccup.
A friend bought the exact same drive (same firmware) using Nero 6.3.1.5 (??) and the program would only allow him to record at 4x.
Moral = Upgrade Nero and firmware if you're running old versions. -
Nero 6.6.0.5 was not able to burn his own .nrg image!
It was failing at the beginning.
Updated to 6.6.0.6, no prob anymore. -
I never thought I'd see the day I say this ...
... but here goes ... NERO SUCKS.
If it's not one problem, it's another.
Version 5.5.10.x was stable !!!!!
Why did they break it !!!!!?????
Luckily RNM4.5 now works with the Pioneer 109,
so I plan to leave Nero behind. Years of good service,
but not anymore.
It STILL IS installed on another PC, the 5.5.10.56 version,
so I still use it. Just not v6.

I been happily using Nero 5, which I bought off of ebay for $20, for over 2 1/2 years now. I'm up to 5.5.10.7. I was concerned if this version would work with my Plextor 712a, which I bought back last October to replace my Sony DRU-500a, and if I would have to upgrade to Nero 6. Nero 5.5.10.7 works great. I guess I'm lucky.
Anyway, ... after hearing all the problems people are having with Nero 6, I will defintely stay away from it. -
It should be as simple as installing the newer NeroAPI, i should have been more patient with my LIB-replace approach.
I don't know how many of 6.6's problems will be carried over.
What might also work is installing both versions to different directories (if the installer will allow).
. -
I had to upgrade to Nero 6 from 5.xxx because 5 did not recognize the Plextor burner. The technology is changing faster than software can adapt or has time to mature.
The few problems I have had with Nero were addressed by support. I do non think Nero is after the wizard users but the masses.
