  1. I've been using TMPGEnc for a while now and have never had any problems. However, recently, when I've tried to burn a DVD, the result is that the video is jittery (stops and starts).

Encoding process that I've always used:

    1. Using TMPGEnc, get AVI file and from it get m2v
    file (video only)
    2. Using VirtualDubMod and BeSweet, create AC3
audio from WAV which is extracted from AVI
    3. Project (i.e. menus, etc) is created using
    DVDLAB PRO and then burned.

So far as I've been able to determine this has only been ocurring when using AVI's with an XVID MPEG-4 encode. When trying it with AVI's with DIVX v3 (DIV3) encode, there is no problem.

I have no idea what could be causing this.

I have all of the neccessary codecs and the AVI paramenters are identified using AVICODEC and TMPGEnc set accordingly.

The media that I have been using has not been constant (i.e.- I doubt that this is the problem). I have used Memorex, TDK, Traxdata.

I have also reinstalled all of the relevant software a number of times and still no dice.... I'm baffled to tell you the truth.

    Things I've tried:

Changing the fourcc details to DivX, no luck

Altering the priorites of the VFAPI plug-ins. Again, no luck.

I really can't solve this myself. I appreciate how busy everyone is and will be very greatful for any help that could be given

Does the output from DVD-lab play OK off the hard drive ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

So you didn't set different input and output frame rates?

Are you using the latest version of the xvid codec?

I had a problem with jerky encodes a while back which was cured by updating the xvid codec.

  6. Sorry, been unable to log on for a couple of days.

Yeah I set the bitrate as high as possible (usually around 6kbps) and I do have the latest version of the codec. But I didn't know that you could "set" a different input rate, thought that was just set by the input source itself.

I'm not sure what you mean by the DVDLAB output playing okay of the hard drive. I didn't think you could play VOB unless off a burned DVD.

First test would be to play the m2v before authoring.
Second test would be to use the "Play DVD from folder" (or similar) option most software DVD players have, after authoring (but before burning).
If your player can't play DVD from folder, create an ISO image of the DVD folders, mount it with daemon tools, play it just as if it was a "real" DVD. This will not be a really telling test, as software DVD players are much more tolerant than their hardware counterparts, but will at least reveal any serious f*ckups.
