So I am in the postion to reinstall W2K, formating a drive partitioned into C: ~8g and another partion - D: (rest of drive) - and the drive letter has changed from original, pre reinstall state where it was my F: drive).
I ONLY formatted C: to reinstall W2K but the secondary partition (F: but now currently D: due to it be recognized but not really) is not available... When I click on it, it asks me to format - WHICH I do NOT want to do...
My ? is... how best to rescue the files from this drive that is "not" recognized...

Any and all help appreciated..

Try this one, it should recognize the partition and files. http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/uk/welcome.htm
Edit: wrong link
You may want to consider not installing it to your HD, not sure if this one does but there was one I used that installed on a CD. I guess since you can't write to or access the partition it might not matter though Good Luck! -
Have you already installed SP4? I don't think SP1 or whatever the default SP that 2000 installs with can read large drives properly. This MAY be the problem.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore. -

Have your tried PCInspector? Should find everthing.... I used that on drive that was fully reformatted and it found multiple copies of all the files. It's not going to restore the drive but at least you'll get your files back....

Do you have Norton Systemworks?
I have lost partitions and Disk Doctor has found them and asked if I want to recover the partition.
Several times, so far.
If you have it, it's worth a shot.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions.
I found a program (File Scavenger which I whole heartedly recommend) and have been able to recover about 90% of my data so far and figure I'll get it all by the time the day is done...
Hopefully tonight I'll be able to put my machine together in time to watch the SB with no distractions...
Thanks all!

I was going to suggest slaving it into a new system, but if you've already got it going then great.
