  1. I have a VCD2.0 that a friend gave me with footage of myself on it. I want to make copies to give other people.

I tried putting the VCD in my computer's DVD/CD drive and copying all the files to my hard disk, then using Roxio drag-to-disk to copy them out to a blank CD-R in my burner. When I put the copied disk into my DVD player, it didn't work. (The original DID work okay.)

I tried it on a different computer, got a CRC error message when trying to copy the DAT files in the MPEGAV directory from the CD to the hard disk. Failed multiple times.

Any configuration settings I should know about? Should I use UDF or ISO file system when burning the copy?

Any alternative ways to copy a VCD you can recommend?

You cannot copy the files, you must use some sort of disk copy method. If you create a disk image first then you can burn multiple copies. I hate roxio but you should be able to do the above.

Roxio will definitely copy the VCD. After you insert the disk, go to the Roxio control panel rather than the drag-and-drop box. From the control panel select disk copy and follow the prompts.

Select disc copy ----- and copy.

    It is straight forward.

  5. Thanks for the responses so far!

So Roxio version 6 can do it? I actually have 2 disks I want to copy - both of dance performances that I did. One friend gave hers to me on DVD, another on VCD.

When I tried using Roxio to copy the DVD, I was using a computer with two drives - one a DVD, the other a CD. I put the DVD disk into the DVD drive and opened Roxio. I had hoped/expected it would give me an option to copy the DVD contents back out to the DVD drive using the hard disk to cache, but the only choice it gave me was to copy to the CD drive. Which wasn't really an option because of the amount of data on the DVD disk...

I guess I could try it on my laptop, which has only one drive, and see if it uses the hard disk to cache in that scenario...

  6. shira,

    1. To make an exact copy of any disk CD/DVD you have to select the "copy disk" option of whatever burning software you are using.

    2. You can disk copy a DVD only if you are having a DVD writer. With a CD writer you cannot.

    3. Just coping the files to CD/DVD will NOT make a CD/DVD playable in a DVD player. You have to create the required file structure on the disk. This is done automatically by the burning software. So you dont have to worry.

Thefore to copy a DVD you need to convert your DVD to a CD format. WinDVD Creater, Nero Vision Express 3, which will do this for you very easily. All you have to do is select the required target format i.e. VCD/SVCD/DVD
