  1. I made some DVDs by using TMPGEnc to convert AVI to MPEG2 and using Nero to burn MPEG2 into DVD disk, and it works.

    I saw lots of authoring in DVD making, can anyboby explain the significance of DVD authoring? Thanks a lot.

    did you just burn the mpeg2 on a dvd? or did you use nerovision express?

    authoring makes the dvd-video file structure, vob,ifo,bup files and also optional menus, chapters etc.

    DVD authoring is about making correct chapter points, menus etc (everything little extra to give a little more professional feeling of your crappy home video / TV capture / whatever) ... Of course DVD authoring is also making your files DVD compliant, so they work on every DVD player, not just on some "made in china model XYZ"

  4. What I did was to convert AVI into MPEG2 using TMPGEnc, then open the nerovision express, drag the MPEG2 files into it, next, next, ..., a DVD is born.

    So, what is authoring in DVD making? Thanks for your explaination.

  6. Thank you all for your explaination.

    Now I think I understand about DVD authoring, it is putting the mpeg2 files into a special file structure that DVD players can recognize.

    Some softwares do the authoring work behind the scene.

    Yes but if you can also equate it to making a book....

    First Play Video=The cover
    Menu=Table of Contents
    Chapters=Chapters etc...

    Which is probably where the authoring name comes from.
