  1. When I try to encode my avi file with ac3 sound in tmpgenc xpress, there's no sound. I tried to demultiplex audio and video streams with virtual dub and convert them in tmpgenc - files are out of sync.

    Can I fix this?

are you gonna make dvd? then just convert the video and use the ac3 in the dvd. https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?guideid=447&howtoselect=4;10#447

  3. That's exactly what I'm trying to do. In authorized dvd there's no sound like in my mpeg-2 files.

  4. Thank you for the link, maybe the problem is in different bitrate. I'll give it a try.

  6. You have to install AC3 plugin for TMPGEnc Xpress. But note that the AC3 plugin supports only 2 channel of audio tracks. SO if your AVI has AC3 audio with 5.1 tracks, TMPGEnc may not be able to encode it properly.

Extract the audio from the AVI file using any audio extractor like "River Past Audio Converter" to wav format and then re-encode with video form original file and audio for the extracted wav file. You can use "TMPGEnc", "Nero Vision Express", "Win DVD Creater" or any other similar tools.

  7. That's exactly what I was doing trying to understand why I have out of sync problem. Reencoding avi file with ac3 gave me the silent mpg. After that I extracted ac3 with virtualdubmod and reencoded ac3 with besweet. Trying to reencode avi and ac3 together gave the out of sync problem.

Next I tried to multiplex ac3 and m2v with audio delay with such programs like cuttermaran, any of videoediting tools... Inside the program the sound is OK, after reencoding - audio is behind the video.

I don't know what to try next.

Did you follow Baldrick's link? I don't think so.

You don't need to convert the AC3 audio, just extract it and correct the header. Next encode an M2V video file which is the video portion of an mpeg. Next author the M2V and the AC3 back together and create your DVD.

    It's all in the guide.

  9. That's first thing that I was trying to do. And these things I'm doing for 2 years (I mean movies with ac3). Moreover, my tmpgenc understands ac3 (I have ac3 plugin), so it's not the problem anymore. Problem are ac3 files themselves. If you read other forums you will see how many people have problems with ac3 if they were inserted in DivX-avi (I have mine from the Internet).

My project consists of 2 files with ac3 audio. Only first is out of sync after authoring. If you read my posts, you would've seen that I've already had authored dvd and tried link just in case I missed something.

I do a lot of converting PAL - NTCS, so I know, that ac3 files don't need to be converted.

Unfortunately, I'm not a specialist with sound, that's why I'm asking people to help me.

Reencoding ac3 needs to be done becouse earlier versions of virtualdub have a deal only with wavs, so I extracted wav, that was shown in gspot as ac3. That's why I reencoded them. After that I updated virtualdub and repeated things. The result is the same EXACTLY.

"You don't need to convert the AC3 audio, just extract it and correct the header." The thing that I really don't know - how to correct the header.

  10. OK, thank you, everyone for trying to help. The problem was, that ac3 file was longer, than video, and encoding eliminated the spaces inside the avi (common problem for divx 5). Cutting the video solved my problem.

It explains it at the bottom of the guide.

  12. If you mean beslice or ac3fix, it didn't help at all.
