Finding an Adress

one day i was in my math class and i was talking to my freinds about computers and stuff and i started talking about ip tracers and stuff, and i said somthing along the lines of if you give me your email adress i can find out your adress. He bet me i couldnt so i said hey, ill try.

I knew about this becasuse i had a program that let you type in someones email adress and it would do different things. I was wondering if anyone could tell me on how this is accomplished. Now im not trying to do anything illegal, so if this is please block. Btw, hes my freind and im not a stalker or anything! lol

I'm pretty sure you can only trace it to the originating server. Just like you can trace a IP address. Form there you would need a warrant served upon the ISP to find out who the user is.
