  1. I am attempting to convert an .avi (XVID video with MP3 sound) to DVD and I'm using Mainconcept.

The source is 23.976 framerate and I'm attempting to convert it to 25 framerate.

Because I have to change the audio file to fit the new filmspeed I opened the .avi in VirtualDubMod and went to the streams tab.

The audio stream is listed as (tag 0x0055, Mpeg1 Layer 3 Length 23:25 )

When I either Save Wav or Demux into an .mp3 the resulting time codes do not match the source video. (MP3 is 23:46 and WAV is 23:39).

I then use VirtualDubMod to change the AVI framerate from 23.976 to 25.

I run the WAV through BeSweet to change it to an .MP2 and apply the 23.976 to 25.00 modification.

Then I load the new 25 frame .avi into Mainconcept Encoder, select MPEG2 and elementary video stream and variable rate encoding. Adjust the sampling rate to fit with the Videohelp bitrate calculator based on the length of the video and then press convert.

Take the resulting .mpv and .mp2 and drop into TMPGenc DVD Author 1.6 and create the VOBS.

Take the resulting VOBs and open in PowerDVD 6.

The A/V is in perfect sync (despite the video length and audio file length being different! why is this?) but the DVD file finishes prematurely. There are about 2 mins missing from the end.

Where is the error? TMPGenc, Mainconcept, BeSweet, DVD Author?

A burn of the VOBs plays fine in a standalone player it is just that the end of the movie is missing.

One curious thing is that if I open the .mpv file with Zoom player and let it run, the time code differs to if I use the slider and move to specific places in the movie - e.g. if I let it run from the start for five minutes and then open the movie again and move the slider to the five minute marker it is at a different point in the movie.

A long story, I know, but I was trying to give the whole facts.

    Anybody have any idea?

    Cheers very much.

  3. Baldrick,

Just tried extracting the WAV using Goldwave and the sound file length now matches the original avi time. Thanks for the tip.

I've also noticed that the file size for the Goldwave extracted wav was over 10 times bigger than the filesize of the extracted wav using Tmpegenc. (263Meg vs 22Meg for a 23 minute file)

Looked at the file properties for the WAV extracted with Tmpegenc and it tells me:

    Format: MP3 128kBit/s, 48kHz, Stereo
Output format: PCM, 48kHz, 2 channel, 16 bits

Is this telling me that the file I got using Save WAV under the TMPGEnc Streaming menu is actually an .mp3 file despite arriving on my PC with a .wav suffix? How is this possible?

What do I have to do to tell VDUBMOD that I want real .WAVs and not MP3 files with WAV suffixes?

I should have thought about the WAV's filesize before though - 23 min .wav in a size of only 22 Meg doesn't feel right!! But it's my first time trying this so I didn't know what was usual!

I'll see if I can now get the sound and video matched.

    Cheers for the help.
