i just posted an app that I wrote for myself. You select start and end points for the video you want to extract, and click "go". No re-encoding, it just splits up the file. It works great for the MPG1 and MPG2 files that I capture. Works only for CBR (constant bitrate) encoded files. Have not tested on AVI files, but if they're CBR it should work. Give it a try.

  3. hi there.
yep, TMPGEnc mpeg editor is a brilliant mpeg editor and wont re-encode your file to mpeg again, it simply renderes the frame each side of the edited or cut section, and thats it, takes a few seconda to do and done, great tool.

be careful when u use the term "edit" i get chastised for calling tmpgenc 3.0 an editor and encoder (dumb) because its suposedly not an editor, it just cuts, splits, joins etc, but if its not an editor, what is it, a cutter, a splitter, a joiner, hell im confused, cos according to some, editing is when u do all the stuff the authoring program is able to do, hence the use of sony vegas to edit, then encode, but it seems that the editor in vegas is very much just like a very good quality authoring tool, just saves one from adding all the fancy stuff when authoring, and i dont want my dvd mpeg file sitting on my pc with all the works added already, i want to add that stuff while authoring.
anyway, thought id mention it anyway.

    have a nice day....GLEN
