I don't know if i am askin in the right forum but if i am not Mod please do not hesitate to move this thread.
I had a CD-Burner it burning speed is use to be 52x and only took 6-7 minutes to burn for 1 CD but recently (1-2 weeks ago) my burning process is seem to freeze in varied number (percentage to be complete, sometime it 5%, 8%, and now 16%) and took 20-30 minutes to complete burning process.
I had Win Xp Pro SP2 up-to-date, Norton Anti-Virus 2005 up-to-date also had my computer scan on Panda Site, bullet spyware remover. But still no luck.
I'm not too sure that this problem occured because i had re-partition my Drive and install new OS. (I use to have only Win Xp)
Harddisk 1
-C: Drive for Win 2000 Server (education purpose)
-D: Drive for Win Xp SP2
-E: Backup
Harddisk 2 (Blank)
CD-ROM
1-LITE-ON COMBO SOHC-5322K
2-SAMSUNG CD-ROM SC-152L
I also had format D (Win XP) drive but the same problem still persist. I'll wait for reply buti f the problem cannot solve maybe my last alternative way is to format the whole drive and that include both OS and Backup.

You might have broken something - repartitioning a live disk can be risky. First check that your DVD writer is running in DMA mode, and hasn't slipped into PIO mode instead. This will cause huge problems. If you use Nero to burn, make sure you are running the latest version. Earlier versions didn't like SP-2 very much.

guns1inger how do i check my DVD writer running on DMA or PIO mode, also i am using Nero version 6.3.1.10 is that the old or latest version?
Thx -
This is really a case for searching the forums - loads of good advice about DMA mode. You need to go to Control Panel then into system and go through Device manager, goto IDE controllers (not the drives) you will see two channels Primary and Secondary. Each of which have a master and a slave. Your burner will likely be the master on one of these channels probably the secondary (Your hard drive will likely be on the primary). Right click and select Properties then advanced and make sure it says DMA not PIO. If it says PIO then try changing it to DMA mode using the pull down. After OK go back in to check it says in DMA mode - should be ULTRA DMA 2 or better. If not you might have to enable it in BIOS or like what I had to do -uninstall the IDE Channel, to do click remove in Device Manager then reboot your PC and it should force it into DMA mode, but make sure you don't delete the channel with your hard drive on.
Please read other posts on the forum for this - there is a specific guide somewhere.
OK guide is here.......

You can use NERO system info tool to tell you it is actually on. Sometimes XP says it is in DMA mode but it is still stuck in PIO.
