    I have a Creative DXR3 DVD/Decoder:
    At the risk of sounding stupid - Should I be able to record a DVD onto a VHS recorder using the composite video out, or is there some sort of copy protection encoded with the signal? The video out works fine into my TV but when I route it to my VCR video in, the picture is garbled

    The output likely has MacroVision copy protection preventing a VCR copy.
