  1. I'd like to simply deduce the size by half while maintaining the quality. What's the recommended method?

  2. reencode it and change either the screen size or the bitrate, whichever.

  3. What do you mean reencode? With what? How?

  4. Are you trying to get it to 320x240, or are you trying to reduce the size of the file?

Try TMPGEnc encoder(Or any MPEG encoder). You can make it any size you want. Try a short clip of a minute or two to experiment with. How it will look or play is another question. As long as you are not going to use it for a DVD or SVCD or some set format, it won't really matter.

  6. I'm trying to get it to 320x240. This is not a file size concern...I simply want the dimensions reduced.

  7. I hate to ask why...Most encoders/editors will do this. Look in the Tools section, under mpeg editors.

Reducing the file size by 50% will certainly reduce the quality. File size equals bitrate. What size is the file now?

640x480 to 320x240 is a 4x reduction in pixels and data.

320x480 or 640x240 (single field) will get you your 50%

Be more specific what you are trying to do.

Taken literally, you would want to reencode at 320 x240 at the same data rate.
