  2. hi there.
romix, thanks for your post m8, i have been tossing up between the canon XL-2 and the panasonic DVX100-AE and now im going panasonic, and heres my reasons why.
    1. XL-2 has a tiny 2" unworkable lcd screen (very sad) DVX100 has 3.5" lcd
    2. both have 24p image capture (only 2 sub $15,000 cams that have got it)
    3. both these cams are nearly identical specs all round.
4, the panasonic saves me $1000 here in aust over the XL-2, so i can get some other accessories for the cost difference.
thanks for that review page, i havent seen it b4, and if u find a similar review about the XL-2, can u post it back in a reply.

    thanks.....GLEN

btw, whats the sony HDR-FX1 cam like, anyone know in comparison to the XL-2 and the DVX100, as im not familiar with the 1080i capabilities on that cam

  3. hi edDV

thx for the post m8, just what i wanted.

i got that site re the DVX100-AE, just needed to understand the sony 1080i system.

that pana DVCPRO HD 720P is an ugly bugga, is that the best u can get in dv cameras, trust panasonic to be there, i just love thier cameras as with all thier electronics stuff, beats the heck out of sony at the moment in nearly all things electronic.

    thanks....GLEN

  4. I'd love to try out a DVX100A. Ended up getting a PD170 as our exisiting camera is a VX2000. Both perform beautifully in low and adverse lighting conditions. I'd really like to have 24P capability though.

I included the 720P (1280x720, 6fps-60fps) Panasonic AJ-HDC27 all decked out with film style lenses because it's the top of the DVC Cinema line and the logical upward step for the user of the 480p (720x480, 24 or 30fps) DVX100-AE.

Both camcorders are designed to directly substitute for 16mm and 35mm film respectively and fit directly into film style cinematography.

Here is the DVX100-AE all decked out in its "Sundance Indi Film Suit"

Not to leave Sony out, here is the PD-150 fitted with film lenses, camera plate and follow-focus mechanism. A good film school will teach you how to use these. It's the opposite extreme to "point and shoot".

  6. hey edDV.

dam it m8, u making me green with envy. u got it all sorted out i see, nice pics of both cams m8, and u have just re-enforced my decision to go with the PANS AG-DVX100-AE as my new camera.
i hate the tiny lcd screen on the canon XL-2, cant work with it at all. i liked the sony HDR-FX1, but it dont have the 24p capture and im not so convinced about the hype surrounding its 1080i technology either, and for me its not as well balanced as the DVX100-AE, so for all round performance and price, i cant go past the brilliant DVX100-AE, and a distributor i found id doing me a great deal on thes new cam + new lighting and other accessories as well.

    cant wait.......GLEN

    DVXuser has a great review/comparison of the DVX100, XL2 and Sony FX1

    http://www.dvxuser.com/articles/shoot3/

The bottom line is that the FX1 is not built for indie filmmaking.

  8. hi everyone, well roxics u just made my day, i have a thread on here asking for opinions about these very 3 cams

    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=256331

but as usual i got a stupid reply that u can see for yourself.

i have already decided to go with my instincs and get the unbeatable panasonic DVX100-AE, and your post here with that review has made it quite clear now that panasonic really is king of the dv cam market, and im off to order my DVX right now.

thanks again and ill put that review away to reed in full a bit later on.

    thanks a million everyone....GLEN

    No problem glad it helps.

May I also recommend these two sites

    http://www.dvinfo.net/conf

    and

    http://www.micro35.com

The second of which is an inexpensive production quality alternative to a mini35 adapter.

  10. hey roxics.

brilliant review site m8, dam wish i found that mths ago, i havent seen a review/forum like this thats dedicated to specific cameras, makes it easy to review each of the different brands and model as people post them in thier respective camera group.
i dad a sneak look just now, and will go back tonite when the kids are in bed.

thanks again, and just to let u know my DVX100-AE in on its way as i type, and i cant wait.

    thanks again.....GLEN
