On the box it says that it can burn up to 12x dvd+r and 40x cdr. I know its not going to ever reach the top speeds but its not even close, my fastest burn speed on a dvd is .7x and 9.8x on cdr even when i set them both to max speeds. I've tried several different types of media (dvd and cds) and I don't see any difference. However, I do have another burner on this computer and I'm not sure if thats the problem, although I don't see how it can since I only have one of them going at any given time unless i'm doing a direct copy of a cd. I've tried reinstalling it as well as switching the ide cable positions with the other burner.
Pc specs:
athlon xp 1800
512 ram
3x hard drives(all ide): 60gig, 80gig, and a 160gig on an ide controller.
memorex 52x cd-rw
and of course my 12x dvd, 40x cd optorite dd1205
Any suggestions?
edit: i've also tried burning with dvd dcrypter and nero 6.

Hi.
Check to see if your drives are in (U)DMA mode. Also, set your burner to MASTER; set the Memorex to Slave.
To check DMA mode...Control Panel--->System-->Hardware tab--->Device Manager.
Make sure you set it to DMA, if available and/or UDMA Mode 2.
Hope this helps,

Yeah, i did a little searching and i figured it was the dma, here's the problem, i think its stuck on pio even though I have to at dma if available, I'm looking for ways to force it because i know the dd1205 is capable of dma2(33mbps).
My primary ide channels are fine but the secondary is another issue, one is at pio, the other is at dma, so I am assuming that this is the problem.
edit: yep, it was the dma settings, I fixed it by deleting the secondary ide drivers and reinstalling them. -
