  1. Alright i got a movie i would like to encode which has a resolution of 640x480. Now from reading guides and whatnot its suggested that you round down the resolution which in my case would be 352x240 which i find really low. I encoded at 5371Kbps 2-pass VBR with a resolution of 720x480 and i must say that it actually looks better than the source file. So should i reencode at 352x240 or just leave it? Does 352x240 look as good as 720x480 on TV? Thanks

Your choices are 720x480 and 352x480, 640 is closer to 720 and would probably look OK. I use 352x480 quite a bit and I'm happy with it, looks good on my 26" TV.

edit: No way 352x240 is any good at all.

  3. Unless your source is questionable quality 352x240, then resizing it up actually LOSES quality.

  4. Bah, i always forget about Half-D1 :P Thanks

edit: Will the final size be smaller when using a smaller resolution or is it dependant on the Bitrate?

  5. It's all bitrate. Aspect ratio/size has (almost)nothing to do with filesize.
    BTW, 352x240 is 1/4D1

  6. I ment i forgot about 352x480 which i think is half-D1. Question: If the movie is at 23.976FPS do i need to enable 3:2 pulldown? thx
