  1. and like my earlier post, going "Movie audio to ac3 or mp2" works fine, but now there are some horrible sync issues, like, 3-6 seconds off. I ran several tests of mpeg files, most of the presets work fine, and sync isn't an issue, but using an XVID or DIVX or any AVI file, I can't get audio during the same VCD, SVCD or DVD encoding, I can only get it seperately. This is just weird....when's version t coming out...

  2. Please give the following additional details,
    - Are you using the "Decode with Quicktime" option?
    - If yes, when you open the input file with Quicktime Player, do you hear audio?

  3. Nope, I use the decode with mplayer option, and in VLC, and in the mplayer it plays fine with nice clear audio, it just won't process it in the same encode, it seems to just skip it, saying "no audio track present", but when I encode ONLY the audio, it's fine, just way out of sync.

  4. Could you email me a clip or a link to download it to major4@mac.com?

  5. OK< here's the info I get when it fails to encode the audioize= 0kB time=10000000000.0 bitrate= 0.0kbits/s
    video:0kB audio:0kB global headers:0kB muxing overhead nan%
**ERROR: [mplex] Unable to read from /Volumes/***/***/***.avi.ff.mp2.

But when I encode JUST the audio, it's perfect, but way out of sync. I'll split the file down to a 2 meg or so clip and send it to you.

  6. Try to remove special characters like [ and spaces in your paths.

  7. I'm having the same issue with ffmpegX 0.0.9s.

I moved the avi to a directory structure with no spaces or special characters in the path or filename. I tried to convert the avi to DVD-mpeg2enc. I changed the frame rate from PAL (25fps) to NTSC Film (23.976fps). The Progress Log records the following:

File /Users/Shared/Show/S3/Ep5.avi.ff.wav has zero power, ignoring...
    Input #0, wav, from '/Users/Shared/Show/S3/Ep5.avi.ff.wav':

**ERROR: [mplex] Unable to read from /Users/Shared/Show/S3/Ep5.avi.ff.ac3.

Yet I have no problem encoding the audio by itself. Encoding the audio file by itself creates a file Ep5.avi.ff.mpg.ac3 189.9MB.

I haven't tried MUXing the video and audio files yet. So I don't know if they are out of sync.

It does seem odd that I can encode the audio by itself but I can't encode it when I also encode the video. It also seems odd that ffmpegX creates different filenames for the encoded.

filename for audio encoded with video encoded:
    avi.ff.ac3

filename for audio encoded by itself:
    avi.ff.mpg.ac3

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't believe I had this problem with earlier versions of ffmpegX. Then again I think this is also the first time I've tried to go from PAL to NTSC.

  8. Check if the files /Users/Shared/Show/S3/Ep5.avi.ff.wav and /Users/Shared/Show/S3/Ep5.avi.ff.ac3 had a non-zero size.

  9. The file Ep5.avi.ff.ac3 is 0KB in size.

There is no Ep5.avi.ff.wav file in the directory. Nor is there a file anywhere on this Volume with that name.

  10. I think I need a clip of your file to make a test. Can you email it to me to major4@mac.com

I downloaded a copy of ffmpegx and tryed it on 2 avi movies with the same "failed" no ac3 file. I've gone through the docs and these forums, correcting every possibility of a problem described. Will this software actually translate into a DVD recording or do I need to look elsewhere?

  12. Try using "DVD ffmpeg" target format ("Decode with Quicktime" disabled). Does it change anything?

Its the same problem reported earlier by others. The ac3 file is empty and progress reports "Failed". The Process Information ends with "**ERROR: [mplex] Unable to read from /movies/t.ac3."

That's a pretty snippy attitude for someone who's only just started to use the app Good luck finding any other app which can do half as much as ffmpegX. For the record, ffmpegX has converted over a hundred movies (from a wide range of formats) into DVD for me. It does have a bit of a learning curve, but nothing a few trial and error attempts won't solve.

Also worth considering is that Major provides the fastest and most thorough support I've ever seen in 25 years of using Apple computers. And he is (I think) a one man band. Astonishing really.

Big hint: if you don't know what you're doing, you should test out your conversaions on a 1 minute clip of your avi.
