I have many Hi8 tapes I would like to convert to DVD. However My Hi8 camera is unrepairable. I can get access to a standard 8mm camera. If I play my Hi8 tape s in a stand 8mm camera and then pass them to my DV camera through to my PC will I retain the extra clarity of the original Hi8 tape or will I be reduced to standard 8mm quality.
Any help or thoughts appreciated

No, Hi8 needs a Hi8 or Digital8 camcorder to play.
Best to borrow or rent a proper camcorder or player. If your "DV" camcorder has analog pass through, then a Hi8 player will work. If not, rent or borrow a Digital8 for capture to DV format.
