I want to try loading one of my program CDs into one of the virtual drive programs. I downloaded DaemonTools for this purpose.

I have now realized that I need to have the disc in some kind of image on my HDD, and *then* mount that image to the drive emulator. I don't know what search terms to use though to find out more about how to make a program CD into whatever file or image type necessary. Where do I start?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Use DVD Decrypter in ISO mode to rip the disc to your hard drive. Then just mount the ISO with Daemon Tools. The ISO will show up as a drive that can be accessed and browsed in Windows Explorer or any number of programs.

    etc, etc

Or any of the other tools in the ISO/Image category of Tools.

I take it we're talking about a game CD, or something similar ?

If so, magicISO or ultraISO should be able to do what you wish to do.
    If in doubt, Google it.

No, it is, as I said, a program CD. I have a piece of adaptive software that allows me as a person with a severe visual disability to use a computer.

I have a laptop, and the other day I once again discovered how traumatic (as in royal pain in the ass) it could be if my adaptive software developed a glitch (which this type of 'ware does rather often, nature of the beast I'm afraid) and needed to be reinstalled all of a sudden.

So, having in the last few months gotten into this particular hobby and knowing a lot I didn't 6 months ago, I decided one of these drive emulators I always hear you folks talking about would be the perfect solution for my problem. I can keep the program CD "always loaded" into a virtual drive, and if something happens (as it did the other day, and has at other times in the past), I can immediately (presumably) reinstall from the virtual CD.

I tried the DVDDecrypter method, but all I get is a message "Drive Contents Not DVD". Or maybe it was "Disc loaded not DVD". One or the other. Anyway, that's out. Any other tips?

I can do the reseach, but all my search terms came back as "no results" or hundreds of mis-hits. What programs rip the contents of a CD to the HDD? That's what I can't figure out.

Thanks again for any advice/tips folks.

Yep, that's basically what I thought - CD (didn't matter if it's an application, a game, or whatever - the point being that it's definitely a Data CD). DVDDecrypter only works for DVDs, but magicISO or ultraISO should be able to create an ISO file for you, which you can then mount with daemon tools.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Ahh, ok. Didn't know if computer/CD games were the same as "regular programs". I don't / can't play the things, so never learned anything about them really.

I'll check those programs out, thanks for the tip.
