I've had very good success with my currect firmware and have passed up on the 3 newest revisions. Is is worth upgrading if I'm having no problems? I'm currently using firmware GSB7 The newest firmware is GSBC

    Reboot,

Are you serious? Does it really write reliably for you and at 8X? How fast does it write -R media? Do you know the exact firmware you are using?

    Thanks dude,

Yes, it writes reliably @ 8x. You may even be able to burn some 4x media @ 8x.

  6. It writes -R at 4x still, but +R at 8x, and dual layer support. Officially, it becomes an 832s. System and Nero both say 832s, because an 832s is a 451s with different firmware.
If ya need any help flashing it, let me know. The instructions provided aren't terribly clear on that page.
    The instructions are here: http://codeguys.rpc1.org/oc.html
You want THIS section: Method 2: Pre-Patched
The 832s firmware to download is here: http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares.html#SOHW-832S
    You want "CG5E".
