  1. Does anyone know how I can encode MPEG4 with an Osprey Capture Card? And also, most importantly what software I would need for that?

A step by step instruction/tutorial would be helpful! Thanks!

I looked through the manual http://www.viewcastonline.com/download/OS210220win2kntmanual.pdf

and it uses vfw (assuming you have installed the drivers) , amcap will not work , but virtualdub should - for capture ..

but what kind of mpeg4 do you mean ? there are many different types and you might have to cap in one format and convert ..

the mpeg4 is (oddly) for audio only the way it is listed..

the mjpeg it supports is the mjpeg format that the matching camera outputs --

so you need to find that out --

you could use a demo of a mjpeg codec and see if it will work -- many diff. types though

yes - mjpeg supports sound (as listed) .

you can use virtualdub for this - but you will need to buy a mjpeg codec (pic video for example) , but i dont knwo if that will work --

can epson send you a sample file or get you more info on what that camera outputs ?

  11. i found the "User Manual" for the camera in the link below... i hope it helps...

    http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&infoType=D...odoid=49164278

i believe there is more info under "viewing and playing images, audio, or video"... page 28... but i have no idea what all that means... what do you think? thanks again.

well - the info there conflicts with the info on the other display device ..
says here it does support mpeg4 AND mjpeg for video

if you use mpeg4 though - you are limited to 24fps and 1.5meg/s bit rate

    mjpeg is 30fps or 24fps at 3meg/s

i take it that you should be able to use Quicktime Pro (pay version) and render to mpeg4 or mjpeg and it should work ..

    also - v-dub with a mjpeg codec ..

squeeze, vegas, procoder2 are also other apps that will work ..

audio you have a lot of choices -- use AAC , mp3 or Alaw (in order)

  13. so mjpeg would be better than mpeg4?

so what would be the easiest way to go? convert say dvd into mjpeg or mpeg4 using quicktime pro 6.5? using the capture card? or?

    i need something really simple.

well if the file already exists - the capture card is useless

and it is not so easy to import dvd into QT pro ..

how much you want spend ? procoder would be perfect for this

  15. I really don't want to spend too much unless it's really worth it. What is procoder? is that better than quicktime pro for what I'm trying to do?

    Thanks.

  17. ouch... a little over my budget.

so is mjpeg or mpeg 4 better/easier to encode?

i guess i will try the quicktime pro if mpeg 4 is better or..

if mjpeg is better i will try v-dub with a mjpeg codec ... where can I find this anyway?
