I need to get the following
jre-1_5_0-windows-i586-p.exe
as my copy is damaged. Manual download does not work as
java.com says its busy. Auto download is not an option as
the damaged part prevents this from working directly.
Any ideas?

Is that the latest release?
EDIT: getting it now, albeit a bit slower tha normal. It's the one with your name on it, right?
Windows (Offline Installation)Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore. -
Yeah ViRal1, thats the one. It's working now thanks. Download took 18 seconds; before it was hanging
around .5kb/sec & then stalling.
As runnerman said, must have been a website issue. -
If it's fairly new I'd suspect that too many people were downloading.

It's not all that new. I've had it 2-3 months. But it isn't the same one that the auto-download usually uses. Thats 1_4_7 I think.

Offline install:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp
You want the JRE version (unless you write java programs, then get the JDK version)
*note, update 1 is available (1.5.0.01)Some people say dog is mans best friend. I say that man is dog's best slave... At least that is what my dogs think. -
I noticed, but I thought I would post the link to the off line installation file for anyone else that might be interested.
It can be confusing to find the link from sun's site, because there is so much information. Some people say dog is mans best friend. I say that man is dog's best slave... At least that is what my dogs think.
