I've been working on a page in one of my classes and this is what I have thus far.

I hate it. I absolutly hate it, but I can't figure out why. So I ask you. What's wrong with it??

Colors? Too much empty space?

Since you asked.....
For starters, everything of value is too far to the right. I could feel the pull on my eye sockets. Black letters on green background with a black shadow at the bottom is just about unreadable. Black text on the blue background is just slightly better. Too much wasted space with the black border on the left. Two-thirds or less of that would probably look good though.
Other than those things.....
Actually, I think it has several good points too, but you didn't ask for those. -
Have you ever tried Kword, I've heard that it has good editing capabilities.

Your code is screwed up.
At 1024x768, the window is centered.
At 800x600, the window is off to the right, requires scroll bars to see.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

Example

Blue test box should be farther to the left to match the distance of the green text box
head should have zero space since the bottom doesn't
i.e. the top has a few pixels of background while the bottom doesn't...white area goes all the way down
other than that, I like it -
Thanks for the feedback guys. I think i'm gonna scrap it and start over anew.

design for 800x600

Typically I do, but at the time I was at school and wasn't thinking straight....that class is at 9am

How does the new design look on PCs? I've used some fonts that are only for Macs, but still want it to be usable my PC users.

Looks fine under IE, although I don't like the dark font on dark background.
Did you want the whole thing to center or to be left aligned? -

me too.Lighten up the background so you have more font contrast. I like the font.Make it a little bigger

Geez. I don't see how you PC users stand it. I went through all the standard fonts to find one that closely matches the way it looks on a Mac and it isn't possible. All the PC fonts blow! They are very blocky and are not smooth at all!
The page on the mac also looks lighter, but for the PC users I may lighten the background a little.
Thanks for the input guys! I still welcome comments on design. -

I also think the colors are too dark. Even Good web page designs with dark colors still offer a white window with black or dark colored lettering, just at the points where the lettering is. The contrast is more catching. Use the menus and outside borders of Videohelp and other sites as an example. There are many colors, but where there's important information, the colors are lighter with black or dark lettering. The main readable area is still white or very very light colors with dark or black lettering. I'm not saying change your design, just adjust a window for the area where your main information is to go. I like the font and the way it's set up at the top. I only thought the lettering below the border line needed to be dropped below where the Chancery hang through. The Chancery can still touch or pass through the lettering below, I just thought maore spacing would look better. Like a font size of 8 or 10 as a blank line between the border and the lettering below. Again, this is just my personal thought and you can take it as a grain of salt or leave it if your tastes are met.

I agree 100% that on a PC the page is very dark, but on a mac the page is much, much lighter. And I think if I lighten it then the Mac version will appear washed out. Plus since I think 98% of my visiters will be Mac users.

Are those two fonts standard on a PC? Or would someone have to buy them?
-
Each PC comes with different fonts pre-installed on them so I can't really say. Didn't come on mine, though.
How about Monotype Corsiva for Chancery? Is that close enough? His name was MackemX

Garamond can be used instead of Didot.
